Default Reccomendations for newbie with 250cc utility atvs?

Kansasatv,

How many tooth rear sprocket does your ATV have, and if you know how many is the front? My Taotao had 15 front with 40 tooth rear sprockets and was geared very high and had no low end torque, thus the need for a front sprocket change for more low end..........Slydog

eisenberg132, I was wondering the same thing. The VBike 250 v4d looks just like the Taotao 250d. Does anyone know the difference between the two? or are they the same just with a different sticker on it?

eisenberg132,

Yes Vbike.us is the same seller as on Ebay and he sells them for $1150 delivered, and there are many Vbike owners on this board. The Vbike V4D is just a Taotao 250 D with support from Vbike. A shaft drive like ghcoe mentioned is a fixed gear ratio and can not be changed, but at the same time it requires less maintence but a higher repair cost when it does go bad. A shaft drive Chinese ATV usually runs about $2k, so you could get 2 Taotao 250 D ATV'S for the price of one shaft drive ATV. I considered the same thing but the price difference and the ability to change gearing for hills and trails was a nice option with chain drive.

Sounds like you have mechanic ability and should have no problem with the assembly of your ATV. As far as aligning the front end the simple method is measure the rear of both front tires and compare to the front of both front tires so you have the same measurement, then you can adjust for toe in or toe out.

Again feel free to ask questions as there are many knowledgeable people on this forum...................Slydog

My Vbike is the 250cc utitlity. The shaft drive which this one is more for hunting and riding on rough trails. Lots of low end power to pull up very steep hills (some at 80%) and rough rocks. But it dont have a high top end unless the engine is screaming. It wieghs in at about 485 lbs. (see pics) the wife and I ride it together a lot and it does a good job going up hills and is very easy on gas. A full afternoon of riding will usually burn about 1/2 to 3/4 gallon. But like it has been said by others , be ready to use a wrench and know some mechanics. I have had mine for about 2 1/2 months now and it has got some very rough use on some very big rocks. So far no problems. The biggest thing I noticed on the 250 V4D there was no chain tightner , so I am assuming the chain is tightened manually ? Also as mentioned earlier , the Vbike utitility costs 1600 +$ delivered . But I wanted a shaft drive verses the chain drive for what I wanted a 4 wheeler for
