yep , thats what mine is doing , turning counterclock wise opposite of the way I think it should. The gears just spin and nothing. Tim sent the new starter , it came from him . Why its the way it is I havent a clue

Ok, here is a starter update on the issue.
After putting the starter on and finding things went backwards and tearing the engine apart not to find anything . I made some phone calls to Tim and finally got a good conversation with him this evening. AND THIS MIGHT BE INTERESTING for some others. It seems if I understand right . The 200 cc and the 250 cc use a starter that is the same diminsional wise and hook ups along with mounting bolts. But , they are different starters . What he is telling me and I think I heard right they might have sent me a starter off a 200 cc instead of a 250cc. He said tomorrow he will take a starter off one on the showroom of a 250cc and send it to me. I am to keep the one sent until all is resolved.
Just for the knowledge of it . This guy seems to be really involved with customer relations and willing to go the "extra mile" to resolve things. This machine might be a cheaper Chinese import but customer service is top PRIORITY . The bad thing is its all mail order and unless one lives within easy driving range there is a wait period to see if something fits , works or is right . For now its wait till the other starter gets here and see what happens with it.

Wow that is interesting lesumm, will be very interested to find out how that goes. My father inlaw has a 200cc HiBird, I might just take the little cover off his and see if his turns counter clockwise.
Glad to hear Tim is taking care it.

yes it is. I dont know about what the Hibird is or how the starter is affected but it would be interesting to know if it does go bad. I am assuming by the conversation the 200 starter turns in a counter clockwise like the replacement I have does and the 250 turns in a clockwise like yours
From this experience , its easy to tell . Remove that small shiny cover as you say with two bolts and hold the big gear between the thumb and forefinger and just touch the starter button. If the big gear turns clockwise the starter turns counterclockwise or vice versa

the reason why the 200 and the 250l/c starter turns ccw instead of cc is because they do not use the small gear between the starter and crank shaft gear. having this gear both the starter and crankshaft needs to turn in the same direction, without it they need to turn in the opposite.

This could be . As in the pictures posted by Coloradotrailrider there is a small gear behind the larger gear. And , after installing the new starter sent for a replacement, hitting the start button does nothing but spin the big gear. There is supposed to be another starter in the mail today I will see what happens with the new replacement. Tim seems to think they sent a starter for a 200 instead of a 250
