Default Vbike 250-V4d / TaoTao 250D chain adjustment/oil change HELP!!!!!!

i was going over some bushes with the quad this morning when i uess whatever i ran over knocked the chain off the sprocket. how do i tighten the chain so this doesn't happen. i have common sense so usually i can fix things like this but never worked on a quad before lol. secondly can i use 10 w 40 oil when i do my first 2 hour change this morning. thirdly is the drainplug the nut that lies parralell to the floor all the way on the bottom of the engine.

thank you very much, any input is greatly appriciated

Do not know about the drain plug, but I have a TAO TAO 150 which shares the same frame I believe. The rear axle will need to be loosened to get the chain back on. If you look near the bottom of the rear axle carrier you will see two bolt ends with nuts on them sticking out to the rear. These bolts are the axle adjusters and move the axle fore and aft when tightened and loosened. The axle pivots on the top two axle bolts and there are two more axle bolts below that help hold the axle in place once you adjust the chain. You will need to loosen these four bolts before you can adjust the axle. As far as the oil I would still stick with the 15-40 they recommend.

Just as a side note. I had trouble with my TAO TAO chain coming off all the time. I would tighten the chain as much as I dared and it would still pop off. Found out that the swing arm bushings were faulty as well as one of the welded nuts that the top axle bolt screwed into had broken free. I did not think this was a big deal but upon further investigation when replacing the swing arm bushings found that not only did the weld keep the nut from turning but also centered the nut in the hole. With the nut not centered it allowed the axle to move forward on one side and misaligned the chain sprockets.

Also I made my own axle adjusters because the original ones were not the best. The treads on mine were all messed up and the angle through the rear holes were all wrong which made it even worse to try and tighten the proper. Good luck, ghcoe

oil change was successful. the manuel read 4 liters of oil must be used. im pretty sure that means 2 qts. i used 15w 40. which is used for most deisel trucks which scares me now. but i am still so stuck with this chain adjustment

The only difference between Diesel oil and automotive oil is that it still haves all the good additives in it for anti-friction and lubricity.

Could not see the adjustment bolts heads stickin out the back? They attach to a washer looking thing under the rear bottom axle bolts.

If thats the 250 engine it should only take just under a quart of oil. Whatever you do make sure you don't overfill it to much.

You can pull the oil drain plug and let some oil drain out and then quickly put the plug back in. Check the dipstick oil level again. Keep doing this till you get it down to the full mark on the dipstick.
