i just bought a 83 fl250 and when i pull it,it will fire but when it fires the recoil pulls back.it is like the timing is off,but as far as i can tell there is no way to adjust the timing with the CDI system.could the stator just be bad.not really sure what to do next.

 

Maybe the clutch is not disengaging? this would cause the recoil to pull back in as the engine is actually "in gear" Makes sense, but I have no idea on these machines, but worth checking it out.
