Ibought a chinese quad about seven weeks ago and it wont start after sitting more than a day i bought a new battery for it to get it started after assembly because the battery they sent with it would not even turn quad over. It will start every time if I charge the battery. After it sits for a day it wont start without a charge???? Not sure what is going on? Any suggestions please.

 

Two things you need to check:

1) When the quad is off and sitting, is anything drawing current from the battery and running it down? To check this remove the the main fuse and insert a current meter in the fuse's place (across the fuse terminals) on the 10 amp DC scale. You should see zero current flow. Remember that on most meters you have to set the voltmeter switch to DC current and also move the red lead to the 10 amp current input jack.

2) With a charged battery and the quad started up, measure the battery voltage right on the battery terminals. It should read 14 to 14.5 volts when running at a fast idle and headlights turned off. If it reads 12.6 volts or below then your charging system is not working.

Don't have a meter? These work fine. I have several. You really do need a meter when troubleshooting electrical problems:

Once we know whether the charging system isn't working, or if something is draining the battery we can go from there.

Bought my 250 chinese geo quad in July of 08. The electrical in these are very cheap.

Your description sound like the battery is draining out through a ground or short somewhere.

I had two problem areas on mine, Where the cables come through to the battery under the seat.
The sharp plastic edges cut through the wires. (2) The fuel tank was setting on my reverse light cable and
wore the wires bare to the frame.

I would suggest that you closely examine all your connections and then the wires for wear against the frame.

If you still cannot find the problem, then taking off your fenders and body will be a PITA but you will
be able to check your wiring thoroughly.
