01 Scrambler 50 help !
#1
bought my son an 01 Scrambler 50. The guy that owned it made it so if you pull the left break (rear brake)it works like a kill switch. He said it made it easier for his kids to learn and when they got scared they had easy access to a kill switch
Well my son pulls it everytime he brakes so its always shutting off. How would I change this back to factory specs?
Thanks for your time in advance

Ok thanks I will track it back. should that wire be going anywhere else ? OR should I just dut it . Its one of the 2 wires that goes t othe lever. I'm guessing the other one is what tells it its pressed so you can start it
Also not sure if this makes sense but it kick starts in one or 2 kicks. If you use the elec start sometimes I cant get it started at all. You can hear the starter working but it wont turn over
Any ideas
Thanks again

I don't know anything about scramblers, so I may once again be stepping outside my expertise a bit.
Normally on all quads I've seen, when you pull on the brake lever a switch closes which connects 12 volts to the brake light. It is one switch which has two wires. One is connected to ignition switched (and fused) +12 volts from the battery, and the other goes off to provide power to the brake light.
But now the quad is wired such that when you pull on that lever and close that switch, the engine is killed.
I agree with LT80. Disconnect that switch (both wires). That way when you pull on the lever, the quad has no way to know that you did that. So the engine keeps running instead of shutting off. I think that's what you want. Right?
If you want to rewire the switch so that it goes back to lighting up the brake light when pulled then that is another step.

The starter works now likely because the brake lever from the factory is usually also wired into a safety circuit that needed to be activated for the starter relay to operate.
With the lever previously wired as a kill switch, it wasn't connecting that safety circuit any longer...
