Found an LT80 at a local shop that was left for dead and I'm trying to bring it back to life.

Thanks to Jack Moore (LT80) for doing a top and bottom end job on the motor.

I should be finished with a stock rebuild in a week or so.

My son is too small to worry about extreme power mods at this time, but I would like to widen the atv. The rear seems to be easy with wheel spacers or a durablue axle. What's the best way to widen the front end? Wheel spacers? Spindle kit from JLATV? Has anyone ever modified the a-arms?

 

Spacers work good. The JLucky kit is good too.
If you use spacers, you may be able to turn the wheels around for a lil more width.

Kave,The cases clean up good enough? The weld came out good eh?!

 

The motor work was great. I don't want to talk about my blunder requiring the weld.

I saw pictures of a bike (Hymis, I believe) that appeared to have modified a-arms. Is this an a-arm from another model atv or a modified LT80 a-arm?

I believe those a-arms are from ATVRacing1.com in Phoenix. +2 I think.
We used to race on spacers. They'll work just fine.

 

I have spacers front and back on my sons LT80 and I jump it once in a while lol. the frame is cracked but the spacers are fine and the motor has been thru at least one set of cases (broke it a couple months ago) but the spacers are still fine... imo, you'll have alot more to worry about then spacers when airing these little bikes out... frame and motor being the main concerns imo... I had a guy recommend against the balloons I run for rear tires tho so trying to source some 18x6.5" snow hogs instead of the 18x9.5" turf tamers lol

 

Got the motor running this weekend. Now I'm just waiting on a shipment of parts to complete the rebuild.

I picked up an LT160 petcock off ebay for $3. I also installed a fuel filter in the line. However, I have one problem that seems to have me stumped.

When I turn the petcock off, a vacuum is pulled on the fuel line that won't let the motor run. Why is the carb pulling a vacuum on the fuel line? I have a vent hose installed on the tit furthest from the motor. I have a plastic cap over the tit nearest the motor (vacuum for original petcock). The air filter housing is not connected to the carb and I hand choke to start it.

I won't be able to run the carb dry with it behaving this way.

Any thoughts?

 

I'm confused when I read your thread and don't even know where to start so can't really comment lol.

why is the carb pulling a vacuum on the fuel line? uncap the vacuum and it may help...

I leave mine uncapped and it runs lol I capped it and it and didn't notice a difference, it's open right now. besides sucking in stuff that could cause damage I think it's fine lol.

why do you need to run the carb dry? unless it sits for a month the fuel shouldn't go dry/crystalize....

 

I'm now thinking I may have the vent line pinched. I'll have a look tonight.
