08 LTZ 50 upgrade ideas?
#1
Alright guys you helped me out of my last problem. Now I could use some ideas on what I can do to get another year or so out of this LTZ 50 before I have to upgrade for my daughter. I remember reading something on an exhaust upgrade (drilling holes?) & also removing rollers from the clutch. I'm even up for doing major engine mods. Any info on these things or any other upgrade ideas would be greatly appreciated. Also any info on the downside of doing any of these mods would be great.

I would pass on the expensive CT stuff. I got my sons LT50 running alot better for ~$350.
1) The first thing you need to do is replace the stock CDI. It has a very low rev limit that can not be changed. You can do all the motor/clutch mods in the world and still be limited by the crap CDI. I have been running the Dynatec unit. Picked it up on Ebay
2) No need to buy a high $$ exhaust. Modded stock unit will do just as well and be a bit quieter. On the stock can you can remove the mesh spark arrestor and pee shooter endcap and weld in a metal washer in its place. While you have the end cap off look inside with a flashlight and you will see there is a solid metal plate with another pee shooter about half way in. Take a drill with a large drill bit and drill out a few holes.
3) Replace stock restrictive airbox/filter with a clamp on UNI (rejet one size up on the main jet)
4) Clutch - remove two rollers from the clutch (this has to be done with the CDI. If you leave the stock CDI you will just be banging the rev limiter). I tried it with three rollers out but it was just too much. Two worked better...
5) Larger rear sprocket. I went to a larger rear sprocket (cant remember the size) and new chain. Stock gearing is a bit too high on the 50.
6) Flip front/rear wheels - THe front and rear wheels have different offsets. Move the rears to the front and you get about 3" of extra width. Your kid will thank you with the added speed. Move the front wheels to the rear with the valve stems on the inside.
My sons 50 went from about 8MPH in stock form to around 18MPH after these changes

I like the price & simplicity of this one. which 2 rollers do I remove? when removing 3 rollers I assume it's every other one. but these rollers are set in a pattern of 3 sets of 2. does it matter which 2 I remove? do I just have to be sure to leave 1 roller in each set of 2 then obviously both of them in the third?
