Default Lt 80 problem

I bought this Lt-80 back in 01. Its blue and white i think around a 90 model. It still has the original tires almost wore out though. It had sat in storage for some years. I cleaned the carb and cleaned the petcock. It had sat so long the gas turned hard. I had to make the petcock flow all the time and put an inline cutoff on it. Put fresh gas in it and it runs fine, but hard to start when you let it set.It will not start with the choke. I have to put fingers over carb and it will fire up idle fine and run fine. I can turn off and it will start back up fine unless it sets for an hour or more then you have to manualy choke it with fingers. using the choke makes no difference. I assumed it was low on compression so I had it bored and I installed a new piston. Made no difference accept more power. I mix my own gas and havent unhooked the oiler. only got ridden 1 or 2 times since new piston. kid out grew it. Sat in shop for few more years. Now I have a friend who wants it for his boy and I want to get it fixed for him so you dont have to hand choke it. Was thinking a new carb, but that may not be the problem. Any sugestions? thanks chad

I had the same problem with an 01 LT80 that I recently purchased. I found that the reservoir (for the lack of a better term) on the side of the bowl was plugged. Its the hole on the side of the bowl that is not for securing the bowl to the carburetor. There is a small hole at the bottom of the bowl where the choke picks up fuel. If you can't pass compressed air through this, you'll have to hand choke the motor when its cold.

I couldn't get 120psi through the hole. I finally used an extremely small drill bit and hand turned it to unplug the hole. Problem solved.

Use the drill bit at your own risk.

Good luck.
