Default LT80 Chain

I thought I saw it posted that a #40 chain and 13/26 (428 pitch) sprockets are a perfect fit. However, I can't seem to get them to work together.

With a half-link, the chain is way too loose. Without the half-link, I can't get the chain on.

Has anyone else had better luck? What did you do?

Thanks in advance.

Loosen the bolts that hold the rear end onto the motor. It should move enough to let the chain fit.
This has been done on many machines.

X2 - LT gave me this tip when I was unable to get the chain to fit. Loosening the bolts on the rear skid plate then re-tightening allowed just enough room to get a perfect tension on the chain.

Thanks for the tip. It was a little difficult to get to the nut on the bottom bolt (the nut between the bracket and the brake housing) until I removed the skid plate. Once I got that one loose, it worked great.

The LT80 still wants to pull the front wheels off the ground with a 13/26t setup and 16" tires.

Has anyone tried a 14/26t setup?

Welcome to the forums Matt.
11 tooth= Yamaha blaster front sprocket.
Plenty of go fast things to do.
I'll mention a cpl things:::
The stock pipe works very well.
So does the stock carb. Don't waste money on a bigger carb.

If you read up, you'll see that some popular mods are::
shave the head .030, lighten the rear clutch shoes to 180 grams, remove 2 clutch rollers in the front clutch.
For a stock motor, along with the roller removal, you can gear up to a 12 or even a 13 front sprocket. This is where you will experiment with roller weight to fine tune for low end and top speed.
Maybe start your own thread so others will see it.

I thought for sure there would be Yamaha Blasters down there (11 tooth).
It's a common sprocket.
Good luck and have fun.

Default LT80 13/26 Sprocket with #40 Chain Works Perfect

My kids LT80 works perfectly with the 13/26 sprocket setup from an 88 and #40 chain from TSC. The 10' of chain has enough to make 5 chains so the fact it does not have o-rings is not an issue. When / if chain gets worn I'll just put a new one on since I have 5 now for $20. The sprockets I got at Dennis Kirk for $10 and $20. So for $50 total I have the new setup. No longer is it loose and now it is a little faster. Also much easier rolling. Higher res photo in photo albums.

Default #40 chain too loose or too tight - Grrr.....

LT80 - I have got the #428 12/26 sprockets & #40 chain combo.
I have read these forums but can't for the life of me get the chain to join.
It is either too loose, or if I take out a link and use a half-link instead it is too tight and I can't get it to join.

I have loosened every bolt I could find at the rear housing/skid plate and put both feet on the axles pushing them forward but can't quite get the chain to join using half a link.

Any secrets please!?

Cheers from New Zealand:-)
