LT 80 clutch question
#2
Could be the former owner of the older LT80 removed a couple weights in the primary to raise engagement, or played with the spring in the secondary. Also, new ones come with a small spacer in the secondary to limit top speed, and restrictors in the carb and exhaust to limit power for smaller or inexperienced riders. The older one more than likely has all that removed, and will be a bit peppier than a newer one with all restrictors in place.

Thank's for responding.
The Kfx 80 has both the carb and exhaust limiter removed. The clutch shoes were cut down to 180 and two rollers were removed. For some reason the clutch engages instantly (but bogging) upon acceleration and it takes about 15 feet to get the rpm's to hit the power band. The KFX runs great in the mid range but is really slow out of the hole. Tried both a new and old spring but no change.
On both of the LT 80's the clutch does not engage until the RPM's rise which gives a nice hole shot.
Any suggestions

The older LT80s used metal reeds in the intake, they would crack and give poor performance, maybe take a look to see what condition your reeds are in, but you would think that would affect the entire power band, not just bottom end. Been a long time since I worked on an LT80, my son is 21 now, so havent had one around in many a year !!
