Default question in regards to anomaly?

I have a Eton viper RX4 70cc that wont start. One thing I noticed is that while turning the engine over it has no spark but once I release the starter button the plug starts to fire. Which seems very strange to me considering how normal vehicle's work. Is this normal?

Huh? Please explain again, if starter is released & quits spinning, how can you see spark? I'm trying to get a better understanding,

So you're grounding against the jug while cranking to test for spark, right?

The sparking only when you take your finger off is quite common on bigger Quads, and I've never solved it. You get used to blipping the starter button as one of those sparks will "catch" and the bike will then run OK until you need to start it again. Some say it is dirt on the trigger coil inside the alternator housing.

I've not solved it either, the other thing I haven't figured out is why a spark plug won't spark installed but when pulled to check will spark. Never can find a ground issue but suspect a double internal ground within the spark plug, just don't know ,...
