need help with suzuki ltz50 2006

My son was riding at Glamis and the bike just died. We checked wires and no spark.
Got home and put in a new Dynatech cdi and the bike started first pull and ran great.
We went riding in the foothills and after 20 or 30 min. the bike died and has no spark.
I don't want to burn up another $170 cdi if there is something else wrong.
Thank you for any help.

There is a long thread here about this problem, see if Cuzvin's solution would help:

With any CDI you have to test the wires to it out before fitting a new one. The CDI makers often put a leaflet in the box stating that, if the earth wire isn't right, you will blow the new CDI. I have blown a new CDI because the voltage regulator was overcharging, can't see the feeble electrics on an LTZ doing that, but worth checking when you do get it running again. I have also found new CDIs to be faulty, but because the owner can so easily wreck them, CDI sellers don't give refunds.
