My LTZ50 Wont Move!

I bought my 4 year old a 2006 Suzuki LTZ50 and cannot get this thing to run right. It ran right for about 10 minutes when I first bought it and then the cdi went bad. The original owner did no mods to it and his kid rode it 3 times. It looks brand new.

The bike starts and idles fine, but when you give it gas it just cuts in and out and will barely move. It wont move if I am sitting on it (165 lbs) and will barely move if I hold the throttle and walk with it. Never stalls, just wont move.

I have completley cleaned the carb, changed the plug, put in a new cdi box (stock), new battery, checked for compression, cvt belt and clutch rollers looks like new. I have no idea what else it could be. Feels like something electrical making it cut in and out, but I guess not. I am at a total loss. Anyone ever heard of this? I've read all of the forums on this site about this little bike, but havent seen anything like this. Just the topics of gettting it more power.....i just need to get any power.

I hate to take it to the local dealer and have them charge me $80-90 an hour just to diagnose and do all the same things I have already done. I see the bill adding up real quick.</end quote></div>

Does it cut out or does it sound like the rev limiter is kicking in at a really low RPM. On the stock CDI there is a secondary rev limiter set very low when you have the e-brake on. If the electrical connection at the e-brake is disconnected I believe the rev limiter kicks in by default. Check the wire going to the e-brake

Is there an answer for the blown fuse and burnt cdi? I have seen a couple of posts on this loooong thread. I have my neighbors little girls quad in my garage.
I saw the fuse was blown and did a amp draw test. It pulled over 15amps on my tester. I dont see any obvious rubbing/shorts. I am pretty sure the cdi is gone but would like either a known solution or acess to a schematic.
Thanks for any help.

I have read this forum and searched many times but can never find the answer to one simple question that has been asked by several people but never answered:

WHERE DO YOU GET A 48 TOOTH SPROCKET????

could someone please let me know where I can purchase this sprocket. Part numbers would me nice if you have it. If you don't want to post it on this forum then email me at larider16@yahoo.com. Thanks

I know this thread doesn't really need to get any longer (been following it for a while). just wanted to thank DSengineer for his insight about the e-brake. long - real long- story a little shorter....had trouble with battery and cdi on 2006 ltz 50. in the troubleshooting process i disconnected the e-brake. after replacing both the battery and the cdi, i could get it to start, but what a dog it was. wouldn't get out of it's own way. i did some of the DIY mods posted in this thread (exhaust, intake, spacer). but no luck. after reading DSengineer's comment about the e-brake i ran right to the shed and checked the e-brake wiring. turns out there IS a secondary limiter tied into the stock cdi. go figure.
just wanted to add that bit of info and say thanks to everyone that contributed to this very informative, very loooong thread
i'm thinking that either the performance cdi or the ltz 90 cdi is next.....

Hi, haven just bought a new ltz50 for my son to see it get easily beaten by his friend in an old LTA50 in not amused..after reading over 1oo pages im now in the clear ( i think )..luckily my friend works in a machine shop who's owner son races go-karts and have their own dyno.. my friend is also a bit of an engineering freak so machining billet aluminium race intake manifolds and crazy stuff is his thing..his dad is also a race engine builder so stuff like squish area's , compression ratios, and bore to stroke ratios are right up his street..can anyone confirm the following :

Where is the best place in the Uk for carb jets?
K&N filter supplier?
is a ltz90 cdi as good as a Dyna thing one? - I have seen various versions of the dyna one on E-bay what one do i need?

I will do the rollers etc and the above and test before letting my friend loose on the cylinder head etc.

Any advice is grealty appreciated...these little things are a can of worms are they not?

Post For all you do-it0yourselfers out there...

The lt-z50 is for youth use and hence the limit on speed. the tran washer does help by decreasing the gear ratio. the exhaust mod will help top speed at the cost of bottom end because it reduces backpressure, which is needed to build power for tourque. and be careful with cdi swaping it can mess with ignition timing and cause the bike not to start or create too hot of spart and burn a piston. And for the suzuki vs chinese, the chinese are cheaper because of how they are made and what they are made of. with name brands they use high quality alloy where chinese use bare passing alloy. the rule applies you get what you pay for.

Anyone tried putting on a smaller front sprocket? Going from a 10 to a 9? Should lower the gearing and you wouldn't have to buy a new chain....

Don't think that there is a restrictor between the exhaust and head, just think that this is a gasket.
