Hey guys,my daughter has a 2005 quadsport 50. I went to start it one day and the pull rope freely pulled out without engaging the mechanism that turns over the motor. I bought a new recoil housing,Installed it but having the same issue? In the attached pic there is a solid metal wire with a 90* bend,if pushed it engage's the shiny "catch" mechanism that's supposed to catch the brass colored piece connected to the crank. I'm either missing something or installing it wrong because that wire isn't making contact with anything once the housing is installed. Please help?
To me it looks like that wire is holding the silver engagement finger closed. It should open out when rope is pulled to engage the ring on the motor. It may have just been put in for shipping. You may also have to take that finder and move it to the other location. When pulling the rope it may be opening the wrong way. Looks like that setup can work on a few different systems.
• Turn the recoil adjuster 3 counter clockwise by a half turn and
pull the starter grip 1. Slowly to see if the ratchet engages and
engine can be cranked. If the recoil starter ratchet does not
engage, turn the recoil adjuster 3 counter clockwise by another
half turn. Repeat this procedure until the starter ratchet
mechanism begins to engage.
• After locating the point where the starter ratchet begins to engage
and secure it by tightening the adjuster lock nut.
• Check again to make sure that the recoil starter ratchet engages
after the adjuster lock nut 4 has been tightened.
I bought mt son a new 84 LT50 when he was 5 and I constantly had to keep adjusting the cable so the recoil would work.

As you can see the engine has to be started counter clockwise. Here the wrong pull starter is being used; this is the clockwise version. This won't work, in my opinion.
