I'm working on a 91 Polaris 250 4wd for a friend.The electric start went out and then later on the pull start went out.Since tearing out the starter and rebuilding them is nothing new to me I got the electric start out and rebuilt it and got it back in.I figured I'd replace the pull start now while it's apart.What year and models of recoil starters will work?

 

Can you rebuild it? I can look at work tomorrow and let you know, but unless its trashed I would think about rebuilding that one.

 

The owner would just prefer me replace it...He doesn't want to,nor does he want me to try and fix it.I've redone the recoil starter on my '94 and it wasn't easy but I'm too cheap to replace.I haven't tore it apart but what happened was the whole pull rope came out..so pull it apart to replace the rope but the spring also came out so I'd have to screw with it trying to get it back in and wound up.I'd just assume replace it if I can find one that will work and is priced reasonably.This is the 2 piece recoil starter--the smaller black cover unbolts from the larger one.
