The long travel CT is a poor design for sure. The frame comes down more thus they had to re-design.
I'm told from ppl that would know that the shape (the bends) of the stock exhaust is good. The old Trinity/Hetrick/CT pipes had the bends...and they all were good.
Never tried any wrap.

Jack...do you have any of those old pipes?

Wrap works as it improves scavenging...however, they are ugly and the bends wont allow the best seal...thus the move to ceramic coatings...same effect and better booking to boot. I used high-temp powder coat on mine - not as good as ceramic, but better than paint/bare (as an insulator)...

How's it going guys. Sorry to jump into the conversation. I have been reading passed posts from the forums and I can't believe some of the stuff you can do with these quads. I've been working on on a 92 lt80. I have done some of the modes that can be done as far as the rollers and clutch and Reed's. I feel like I haven't got much power out of it. How would I go about sending Jack my engine to put one of his kits on there? I love these little quads. I just wish I had the tools to do what you guys have done. Here are a few pictures of what I'm working with. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Here are a few pictures of

Hey Jack how's it going. It's funny how you replied to this message from 2017 today. It's funny because the lt80 I was working on back then I sold about 2 years ago and I actually picked up another lt80 today.

That sucks. I actually still my need your help here. What are the main differences between an 87 lt80 and 2000 lt80? I know something with the front clutch and something with the rear chain sprockets but not exactly sure.

They went from a CDI/coil unit o a individual coil and CDI. They went from a long front clutch bushing to a short bushing and a washer. The gearing went from 12/26 (428 size) to 10/22 (520 size). And in 1996 they added the lil circuit breaker.

Thank you for the information. So in your opinion what setup do you like as far as the front clutching and chain and sprockets?
