Eton RXL 90 2 stroke wont start unless i use starting fluid
My sons Eton will not start unless I give it a shot of starting fluid in the carb. Once it starts up you need to work the throttle to help keep it running. After it warms up things seem fine. This 4 wheeler has always been a little temperamental when it comes to starting up when its been sitting for awhile. Now that its winter it's really a problem. Any ideas?

Obviously it is lean, meaning not enough fuel. As it gets colder, more fuel is needed to start it and keep it running. If it has a choke or an enrichment valve they are not adjusted right or not working at all. Instead of using ether try wd40 as a starting fluid. Ether will end up causing a scored cylinder wall as it has no lubrication in it.

I would be checking compression. Two strokes are specially bad to start with low compression. If it has the Minarelli engine, it will probably have an electric choke. These are strange devices, using alternator power directly to heat a coil, which heats a thermostat, closing an excess fuel jet, so when cold the excess fuel device is always open. Like Kymco450i I never use either, I use butane sprayed out of an unlit butane blowlamp, seems to work well on two strokes, and doesn't dry the cylinder walls.
