New to 2 strokes

1)When and What are the symptoms of needing a topend rebuild

2) how long do the lt80s top end last

3) eBay kit or wiesco kit

4)how hard is it to rebuild

The hardest part is finding the right torque wrench! I finally found one at Home Depot. I used an aftermarket jug, Wiseco pistons , and the good gaskets. I cleaned the chamfer up good on the cylinder with a file before installing just to be safe. Looked like they did a quick job on that part. Everything has been good so far. Youngins been riding for a week or so now. Of course I’ve been riding it too. Lol. Mine turned out fine, but I think people on here suggest the factory Suzuki stuff. It’s not hard at all and should last a good while! Like a big chainsaw engine. You can rent a compression tester at most parts store. Good luck! My $150 Lt80 turned out awesome!

Point 1. They get bad to start, especially cold, and don't have much power, but as it comes on slowly you don't notice the drop off in power as a rule. Do a compression test, if under 90psi then think of a top end rebuild..

2. A new bore/rebore and piston will probably outlast the child's interest as, unless small, they grow too big for LT80s by the early teens.

3. Jack recommends a re-bore and Suzuki oversize piston.

4. Only done one, and I seem to recall it wasn't all that difficult.

To add:: I indeed recommend boring your stock cylinder to a nice new Suzuki piston. Ya-ya I know, all the rookies love the 30 dollar kit. I pay $55 for a Suzuki piston/rings alone. I only use a Wiseco when going to 52mm.
How long will it last? :: 1) hella lot longer with Suzuki parts. 2) It will last as long long time if you keep up on air filter maint. I get 1987 motors in that is just coming to need a new top end rebuild.
