no offence, tecumseh engines are not the best. you could put a whole bunch of money in them but the engine would not last very long and all that money would go to waste. i've had 3 tecumseh engines. all of them wore out pretty fast. so i bought a briggs & stratton engine. it is still running and has already outlasted the 3 other engines.i agree with the previous post. get a purpose built race cart motor or atleast a different brand engine.

Remove the governor. If you have a 5.5 hp Enduro motor, the only difference between it and the 7 hp model is the RPMs allowed by the governor. And, NO you are not likely to blow your engine as long as you use the torque convertor and have big rear tires. Other tricks - get a header, improve the airflow on the carb. You can get a kit for around $70 that has several performance changes that will push it to around 9 hp. Check out Off Road Gokarts at YaHoo.

The Yamaha KT-100 engine is a poor candidate for off-roading because it is designed for high RPM racing. Enduro racers typically get 12-13 THOUSAND rpms out of these engines. They have no flywheels and idle at over 2000 rpm. Even if you could get a torque converter for a KT-100, you would still need a tremendous sprocket reduction to get useable (slow enough) speeds.
