thinking about buying KTM
Hello new to the forum.
Im interested in the KTM 450xc or 525xc. I've read many reviews saying they are a great bikes right out of the box but was wondering if anyone has first hand experience. I do a lot of trail riding and jump onto to the mx track now and then with friends. I want to know if they are reliable or will I have to do a lot of adjusting giving they are more race ready.

KTM 450 will not have any more hp or reliability then any other 450 but KTM is known for being more track ready as they use higher end aftermarket shocks , pipes, brake pads and even tire right out of the box.s
Atleast I know thats the case with there Motocross bikes, its part of the reson they cost more though.

I had a KTM 525 - loved it - great motor - great quad right out of the box. Used it for trails and the dunes in S. Calif. Sold because my buddy needed a quad and wanted it. I had a 450 and a Banshee also so I sold it to him for what I paid for it. He still has it 3 years later and has had no issues at all.
The shop that works on my bikes (Duncan Racing) also has a very trick one they built up for a customer that was raced some. It was pretty reliable but the did find some weak points when really hammered in desert races. Don't know what but I know they broke a few welds here and there.
For recreational riding you can't go wrong if you want great power. The KTM 525 motor has been around a long time and is a torque monster.

i have only riden the xs 450 once, and own and favor my outlaw 525. i can only vouch for the motor but ill say its a very powerful motor. plenty of torque and a great sound. i wish i had gone with the 525xc but i chose the IRS over the straight axel. its a funny motor to work on but reliable. go for it and please give feed back. go with the 525, i doubt you will outgrow the 450 soon but im sure there is a difference in power. if im wrong feel free to correct me due to my lack of riding time on the xs 450, but im partial to the 525 motors

I am in the same boat... can not say anything about the 450 but the 525 ktm that is in my Outlaw is.... well insane. Has so much power, runs great, can not say one bad thing about my Outlaw.
