It's a matter of getting organized!

I can't recall the exact name, but didn't a group like AMA just start another oranization specifically for quads, or maybe it was an off-shoot of AMA, anyone have the correct low down on this. The reason being, until we as ATVers get properly organized with sponsors we will always be the smaller group (so to speak).

Everytime I go to my favorite riding place, I notice that quads outnumber MXers by at least 3 to 1, but when they have an organized race at the track there are hundreds of MXers and very few Quads competing.

A good start would be to join a local ATV club, if there isn't one in your area, start one.

There is quad racing in New England. We have had a series here for the last 3 years. Typical entery numbers range from 150 to almost 300 riders. We actually have about 17 classes and use a track for the entire day by ourselves. Dual motos and qualifying, LCQs and practice.

Racing is alive and well in New England. There are about 3 different bike series run in the area and the quads are actually getting just as many (if not more) race dates than the bikes. From what I have heard, our series has the largest turnout of any quad series (other than the GNC) in the nation.

Then only thing we need is a GNC stop at the famous Southwick MA track (one of our series stops).

I can't recall the actual acronym for the association, but I really do think it was an off-shoot of AMA, I read this somewhere a while ago in a Dirt Wheel magazine. The main purpose I believe was to promote the sport of ATVing, and helping keep current OHV areas open and to open new ones, and to actually bring the two wheel and four wheel groups together as one (to make a stronger group).

Either way it is up to US to help keep this sport alive and moving along to bigger and better things!

I believe it was the ATVA, and I think it means All-Terrain Vehicle Association. We should organize a group and try going through with this stuff.

Your opinions count just as much as everyone elses on here mistercannondale. I know what your saying about AMA sanctioned tracks and series. Where I live there are a few series, but there aren't very many tracks. There are only around 5 tracks in about a 120 mile radius of my home. Not all of these are AMA sanctioned tracks. I went to the coolest track I've ever been to weekend before last to check out the comp. It is an AMA track and from what I could tell very suited for quads. There were only 8 though. They were even giving $1,000 pro purse GARANTEED, and 4ft trophys for the amatures. My local track is ending its own 12 race series this weekend and giving $2,000 for overall most points, $1,000 for 2nd in points, and $500 for third as well as a years free practice. 4th gets a years free practice. The youth classes get $500 1st, $200 2nd, and $100 for 3rd. Free years practice for 4th. At every race 1st through 5th get a $20.00 gift certificate and trophy. This is not an AMA track yet by the way. You would think the gate would be full of quads and lots of classes right. Well weekend before last it was just 2 of us in the adult quad classes. We were in seperate classes though. Me 4-stroke my bud 2-stroke. Its kind of wierd if you think about it, I mean the bike guys that finish at the back race after race in the Nationals probably still do pretty good on $. The guys that finish up front race after race and year after year in the ATV Nationals still have to work at a regular job! I agree with everyone something has to be done. Lots of things need to change mainly the factory support needs to be there and then outside support will come( Snickers, Mt.Dew, Coco Puffs, Oreos, ect.) hee.. hee..Just playing! Anyway I know money isnt everything but it does help. Also whats a better way to make a living than doing something you love and would do (and sometimes put yourself in the hole with the money it takes to go racing) anyway.

Thanks ltracerx, I will have to look that issue up now, to see exactly what it says...

On another note; the sponsors are not going to start coming out of the wood work until we get more quads on that track and racing. Everytime I go to my favorite ride area I see a slew of sport quads out and about on the trails, but when I ask them if they race or might be interested in racing, the answer is almost always the same "I'm just out here to have fun, nothing serious". We need to remind them that racing is fun and that they don't have to go mach-2 and win. Just participate.

Go to a motorcycle race and most of the time there are quads there to race, and all the big sponsors are there, but when they see only 2 or 3 quads hit the track they become uninterested, because there is no advertising value.

Remember, it's all about the advertisment (money) for them. It's not what they will do for us, but rather what we can do for them!
