I changed my oil before Red bud with 20w-50 sythetic blend. The oil level was normal. After Practice. I took my front plastic off and there was oil coming out of the filter and in the pan below it. What Happened???? Also. I was puting around the pits and my bike died on my but it started back up. It happened to me when I was racing to?? Whats wrong? Could it be electrical?? thanks

Hey bud, you must have been giving it hell at RedBud, cause that's what caused my cannibal to do the same thing a couple months ago. Was running a banked 1/4 mile oval WFO for 6-8 laps, pulled off and found a lot of oil under the air filter and dripping. There is a frame resevoir vent line into the airfilter. I wrung out the filter, checked the vent lines and went back to whoopin on the 250r boys. when youth finally conquered technology i pulled off and had oil absolutely everywhere. Even then,it only read about a half inch down on the dipstick. I think tapping redline for 5 minutes with too much oil in the quad was the likely cause. I did remove/check all the other oil lines from engine to frame for blockage too. It was suggested to me that the other possible cause was piston/ring wear. Cannondale indicated they would help me out with it if necessary, but it was in warranty then, so who knows. I've got 2-300 miles on it since then with no reoccurence and never have had a stalling problem. Idle speed? Checking those oil lines is a pain and I didn't find any block, but that may be useful. Oil all over is spooky!

i've had the same problem.they say it has to do with the cold weather.i raced all winter never had a problem.then i raced may 5th i had oil all over the place.i've heard that you have to drain the breather hoses on the right side frame by your foot.i did and there was quite a bit of oil in there.i have heard of others in my area with the same problem.most have gotten new engines under warrantee.

I had a strange oil problem last time I changed it. After changing and filling to the proper level, I went riding. A couple days later when I checked the oil it was way too high on the dipstick and I had to drain a bunch out. I know I filled it to the right level. Is it possible that this happened to you guys and the extra oil is what blew out at the air filter?

I hope overfilling is the explanation! Otherwise we're looking at new engines as a fix!

my quad is getting a new engine as I write.i was told that the new engine has a different piston and rings, along with some other updates.i won't be able to try it out for a good month,it did a good cartwheel at the last race.does anybody know if a rear subframe is available for these aftermarket?

So the engine locked up and sent you over the front? So the engine oil overflows into a location in the flont frame.....potentially keeping the engine from it's lubrication?

no,the crash was not a result of the oil leak.it seems to come from the small breather under the air filter.which in turn saturates the filter so the engine cannot breath, then it runs down the frame in front of the radiator.
