Well since I have bragged publicly about the water crossings my 'dale has handled i fugure I'll come 'clean' on last weeks ride. Hit 3 creek crossings and had to get towed, by a cough honda cough, across the 3rd one. Water was up to the fenders, and the sand was too soft. When I came outta that one the clutch lever needed about an inch of adjustment. no problem and she ran great for the next 7 hours. Got her out for some regular maintenance yesterday and pulled the tranny drain and nearly cried. grey sludge slowly drained. boohoo. I'm thinkin she must have sucked water through the vent line. I flushed the tranny 5 times with clean gear oil. this was a good use for all the leftover oil from the many brands/weights i've tried. Then i adjusted the actuating arm to spec. WEll, clutch is still working but now i have the 'impossible to get neutral' problem i've heard so many of you complain about. Anybody wanna guess how much life my clutch has in it? Your sympathy is appreciated, and yes I know the manual says 8" water only. !!#$#@#%&*()^&*#$%!@#$!!

LOL! I told you it wasn't a submarine Ryan!

Measure your clutch plate thickness, that's the only way I know of to check your clutch life.

Ryanstones,

The tranny breather, actually blows excess pressure out but also sucks in when there is low pressure in the tranny. If you go through tons of water, route that line way up high.

In a lot of cases you can just look at the plates and tell if they need replacing. If finding neutral is hard then you probly need a new clutch.

Yea, I think i'll be rerouting that vent tube. I'll have to get some time on the clutch before doing anything with it.

Up too the fenders? Thats some deep stuff for a sport atv. At least your crankcase and top end oil is separate.

I guess it was tooo deep for sure.I think 3 of the Honda Utes I was with drew water into the carb. We had a big rain the day before and the creek was higher than usual. It's funny that i crossed a 50 yard river back this spring that was nearly as deep without any problem. But i wasn't being towed. I've seen raptors in way over the wheels several times. I've been surprised how well the 'dale has handled the water and just kept pushin it. I'm gonna check and grease all the electrical connections when i have the engine out for valve adj.

I wanna remind ya'll to check the seal on your airboxes.

Oh, and Trout , did you get one of those special models with reverse?
