moose,
that is what i was thinking. what do you think of removing the spacer under the cylinder and rechecking the compression. is the spacer to clear the crank shaft or to clear the piston and head? airtime

special,
i just received my cylinder and piston from tmm motorsports. i sent my old piston to him and everything. said he wanted to check the sqish area before shaving the head. i guess he did not check the sqish area (area between the piston and the head)after all. lol airtime

I have no experiance with the 310 kit, It's stroker right? If so it might be to clear the crank.

Hey airtime,

It sounds like he sent you a piston for the wrong year 250R.

I can't remember which is which regarding the rod length, but the 1986 piston will not work with the rod and crank from a 1987-1989 and it wont work the other way around.

Most always assume that the engine is a 1987-1989 unless they ask or if you tell them otherwise. Is your engine a 1986 model???

You might want to holler at Eddie tomorrow. He is our 250R expert at VCC. I'm sure he could tell you which year was the long rod and which was the short rod.

BTW.....The actual stroke is the same for all year models. The only difference was that the rod was longer [or shorter] for that single model year requiring the wrist pin location to be positioned differently.

Good luck.

Oh.....and if you decide not to go to Chandler Mountain Sunday, A bunch of us are headed to houston to ride the MX track there. You are more than welcome to come along. Just call me tomorrow for directions.

patrick,
got my quad together. i called tmm motorsports and he said he sent me the wrong piston. i removed my cylinder spacer and compression went to 185. got the motor together today and it ran like crap. changed carbs and everything. it was missing like crazy and back firing. i had an extra coil so i swapped it out and boooom. back in business. only problem is it is still boiling over like it is hot. i checked the pump by looking in the open radiator cap and it looked like it was pumping. maybe a bad radiator cap. anyway, were heading out to chandler mountain in the morning. have fun tomorrow and good luck to all the guys going to monster mountain. mrp i'll be expecting a win from you (especially since captain is not going to be there. lol) see yaw tomorrow night. thanks for all the help.

airtime,

Glad that you got it figured out.

Call me next week and let me know how Chandler Mountain went. I haven't been to that track yet.

Just to clear it up. The 86 is the short rod. The spacer plates are to run a 87-89 rod in a 86 motor.

As he said the wrong piston.

Wish I was racing. Even if it was in my back yard
