I'm picking up my new Blaze next weekend and just had a few questions before I pick it up. First I have read that there are a number of updates or service bulletins that are out for the Blaze but not sure exactly what they are. Should I make sure that all these updates are current, and if so how could I verify that? The quad is a brand new '02, what if anything has been changed in '03? Thanks for the help!

Ask for copies of the work orders to ensure that they have been done. It's easy to say yes they have.

Have fun

Thanks. I wasn't sure if each dealer had to do these updates or if they were optional. Also what is the deal with the competition headlight covers, are these stock on the Blaze?

My dealer said legally the quad had to be sold with headlights and the covers came with it. Might just be a California thing though

Things to look for, not all, but a couple of the most obvious.
1. Check the fuel pump on the left side, silver can mounted to the diagonal frame rail beside the fan. Make sure there are black boots on both wire terminals on the top- there should be. Originally only came with one on the connection closest to the front of the quad.
2. The latest update- on the right side, by the brake lever, there was a 3/8" oil line running to a banjo bolt at the bottom of the motor. THis is where you drain the engine oil. If it has the updated ventilation routing, this hose won't be there. It'll be a bolt, like a normal drain bolt. The trans. drain bolt is on this side also(closer to the rear of the motor), so don't be confused. This one is probably not done, and may not be required- depends on the type of riding you are doing.
3. I wouldn't take it home with out having this checked!!!!!! The stator shielding. The flywheel has to be pulled off and verify that the stator wires are shielded as they pass through the metal clip that holds the wires out of the way of the turning flywheel.

It should only take 10-15 minutes to check the stator wires and the rest is a visual. The stator problem could cause you to have some stalling and battery draining, which will end your rides sooner than you want to! There are a few other bulletins- check the C'dale site to familiarize yourself with them. The Cannondale is an awesome ride- Enjoy It!!

Thanks NRATH. I am actually picking up the quad down in your neck of the woods. Close to Amherst, VA. Not sure if you have dealt with this dealer or not? I am picking it up next Saturday, its a long drive from Indiana, but it should be worth it. I assume any Cannondale dealer would be able to complete the updates for me, even if I haven't purchased the quad directly from them.

Yeap! Any 'Dale dealer will help you out.

There's some GOOD riding near there I hear! I just picked up a couple flyers for some trails there. Can't wait for the oportunity to ride there. It's about 2-1/2-3 for me.

ZRWHAT, if you come through Louisville, you can stop by the shop and I will make sure all the updates are done for you free of charge. The head light covers will come in a box with your Blaze. The oil line update is not an update that dealers have to do. I was at the Cannondale factory this weekend for the school they have for dealers, I asked them about this and they said it only needs to be replaced if the rider is a motor screamer and it blows oil into the airbox! This update is standard on 03's. There are only a few minor update for the 03 Blaze and Moto's.

Hope this helps,

Hey ZR,

If you can't wait until you get back to Indiana to ride, swing over this way and NRath and I can take you to one of our riding spots.
