Modified air box
#1
Has anyone tried to modify the airbox on thier dale? Will it help? I have always heard that air = power. I have looked at mine and I have a couple of ideas. I dont want to do anything that is not going to help. Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated.

I agree with you mountianman10, I have often thought of cutting out the two vertical slots on my cannibal and putting in a mesh screen to catch dust and debris, do you guys think this would help? and is there any info. from K&N about a filter from them?

I thought about doing it that way but I am afraid of getting mud and water on my computer and screwing it up. Will mud and water hurt it? It is sealed around the fromt and sides for a reason isn't it. Im afraid that once you put the screen in there is no way to keep those things out. Another thing I thought about doing was going behind the steering column, cutting a hole and putting a filter on top of the actual air box but I dont know how much that would help either. Hopefully someone with experience with this will reply.

This is my two cents Why mess with sucess. Air in front, exhust out back. !! After a muddy moto we power wash it off, stand it up, more power wash, set it down. Check the air cleaner and its dry and clean enough to run again. C-dale is the first to put it where it belongs. When you run with the lead it STAYS clean. None of our other quads stayed clean. It was under the seat getting its own dirt.
When we take the plastic's off to give it a good cleaning we put a one gallon freezer bag around the air filter and stuff the open end inside the filter. Reinsall it on the quad and power wash everthing Computor and all. We do have lots of dielectric grease on everything though.

Have you seen the Quad Tech nose piece. The whole front is open on it. I talked to my dealer about it and he said it wakes the quad up. My only concern is the same as yours. Mud and water is not good and will destroy the computer.
If you plan on cutting a hole in the front to allow more air in I would use one of those outwears that replaces the 250r airbox lid. I got a buddy that I race against that have a 250r with this on it and they've dumped water on top of the outerwear to see if it allows water thru. Well not a single drop went thru so they are running it.
I've though about doing this, but really don't want to cut up the plastic, so as of now I just going to stick with the stock set-up.

lt has a good idea there.as far as the box goes I was told there is nothing to be gained by modifying it the motor runs best with that air chamber I was thinking that a flat air filter right in the box would work well easy to change Mr.Walsh said they did some experimenting and it didnt work.

i drilled 6 1" holes in the two grooves in the nose (3 in each groove) and glued alum screen behind it looks killer but i didnt notess any power gain

Cdale1,
Have you had any problems with mud or water getting in and sitting around the computer? It looks like to me if it got in it would not be able to drain and would just sit because of the seal arount it. I raelly want do do something to it but everything I think of has a downside.
