Stud update really needed ??????

What is the diffrence a stud or allen bolt???? as long as it is torqued to the right spec with the red locktight on it. Or is the problem from the bolts stripping the engine case. Im trying to understand this problem so i can deel with mine properly. I hate beeing afraid to ride it because of this issue. My local dealer is worthless and no help. They are so bad that they still have new cannibals on the floor for 7149.00
and make no mention of cannondales situation. But just try to get it serviced.

The stock one's use allens. The upgrade is studs with nuts. Both or either should be red locktighted.
We have two bikes and have had the upgrades on both. I am currently getting one upgraded to the 450 kit, part of this work is to drill out where the studs are and replace with steel keenserts and larger hardware. Since any dream of my warrenty is gone. I opted for the piece of mind. They also do other things to try and bullit proof.

I'm with you C432, I'm a little puzzled as to why they didn't just have the screws removed and red loctited back in. By switching to a stud and nut, you now have two pieces that could come loose instead of one. Not to mention you wouldn't have to replace the cover then.
Does anyone have any inside info or understanding that might clarify these questions????

Do you have to bleed the clutch after you check for the stud update? If so what is the best way to go about doing this? I think I will check to make me sleep better at night.

Where you getting the update done at? And if I can ask, what is it setting you back?
Thanks

As far as doing the update I think all Dales are vulnerable to this type failure so it's just a matter of time before they all have the problem. The unfortunate thing is the major damage it can cause. Do you wait until the next valve check or do it ASAP? I think that really depends on what kind of gambler you are.
The best idea I've heard so far was to use aircraft bolts and wire them up. That way you know for sure they will never back out. I don't have any details but it sounds like a great idea.
I imagine a dealer could easily make an aircraft bolt kit available along with the gaskets and instructions.

I have already had the stud kits done on both of ours. But am still getting an even more advanced version from Southbay moto, where they drill out and install keenserts with larger hardware.
