Default From nothing to overkill------ATV regs in WV

The problem with this report is that this Consumer advocate group has NO vested interest in the safety aspect of ATVing, their ONLY desire is to kick all motorized vehicles out of forest lands.

And another problem is with ATV safety training? The very safety group[ASI] that was adopted way back in 1988 to administer the safety program, actually impedes training to younger students because of age/cc guidelines that MUST be followed in order to take a free ATV Safety course.

Youth aged,

6-11yrs old cannot train on an ATV with an engine size larger than 69cc
12-15yrs old cannot train on an ATV with an engine size larger than 90cc

So,given the above info, and coming to realize that MOST mom/dads are not spending their hard earned $$ on some undersized ATV just to make the manufactures happy--------those that need the safety training the most[kids]dont get it for free........

We dont need legislation that bans certain sized ATVs for youth. We need mandidtory ATV Safety Education training that FORCES at least one parent or gaurdian to involve themselves in a safety class w/their youth, even if its just to stand by and listen.A youth that is trained without a parents involment is a youth that will eventually get themselves hurt/injured on an ATV???

A well informed parent is a parent that is educated in both the safe and responsable use of ATVs.
