Quote from MOTO**--As far as the trails I was posting that I as alot of others think that they are not being maintained, downed trees, ungroomed, overgrown brush. Then I hear State officals complainging of users not staying on trails, how are we to stay on trail when there are downed trees and brush blocking the trails. Get real MUD/2trakr, we ORV users are paying the fee to use the system and since its not being maintained, we catch the flak from State, when it is not our fault. While your info was info, it still did not answer why ORV users have to go around downed trees and brush for months if not longer--END of Quote**
I get it,MOTO thinks that because he pays his 16.25 cents for his ORV sticker, that the trails he rides should be something just like I-75..When it snows, the snowplows are in full force with salt and plowing duties clearing the freeway for motorists ect.
I hate to break it to you Mr Moto, but our ORV trails do not work the same way as the above and our public trail system has NOBODY except non-profit VOLUNTEER folks that do the same trail maintenace that you speak of above. The DNR does not hire outside contractors to do this work, nor do they do it themselves.FYI,about 53% of your 16.25 cents from your ORV sticker fund goes to non profit clubs and associations to maintain the trail system you speak of,and this gets done 2 times a yr.
Im begining to feel that you think this trail maintenace stuff is an easy task and that we should have an inspector riding the trails everyday so they can clear the downed tree's and brances that are in your way..Sorry to break it to you bro,but it dont work that way.

Wow MUD, you are so off trail here, I posted nothing like what you refer to, where do you get this stuff from?
I have nothing to do with your friend blackballed, and from the sounds of it MUD, you were at one time friends.
I made no mention that I75 and ORV trails are the same thing, you posted that MUD. MUD, posted that those trails should be plowed and salted. Your friend 2trakr posted "I can already tell you exactly what his beef with maintenance will be and it's pointless for me to attempt discussion", maybe you should read what your friend posted?
It sure sounds like the trail maintenance plan needs to be updated. I think I mentioned that earlier.
MUD, I've looked at the info your friend 2trakr posted, you do not have to repost it again. As far as it being easy, I doubt it, do you know what it takes to clear a huge downed tree?
MUD you are off your rocker, I posted downed trees/brush blocking trail, I bet you do not even know what that means. Do you understand that the State is complaining that because we users have to go around things that block the trail, that we are causing damage? This is not a new problem, its been this way for many years. MUD, I do not think you know what a ORV/ATV is? ORV=offroad vehicle, ATV=all-terrain vehicle. Duh, I know mine can go through alot, but a huge downed tree, none of them are going to be able to stay on trail.
Again I do not know your friend blackballed. I am not related to blackballed.
I was just asking questions about the things you posted here, that is fine if you do not have answers, just admit it next time. Maybe you know more about these things than what you are posting, but it does not look that way to me, sorry if you are offended, I appologize for anything I posted that upset you, 2trakr, or anyone else.
I do not think I posted anything of the sort tho.
I was asking you questions about things you posted.
MUD, Good Luck in your future endevers,

MUDDY4LIFE,
After thinking about this more, why are you posting that I say things I did not? You posted
"MOTO thinks that because he pays his 16.25 cents for his ORV sticker, that the trails he rides should be something just like I-75..When it snows, the snowplows are in full force with salt and plowing duties clearing the freeway for motorists ect."
MUD, I never posted anything of the sort. I do not even think that. But the State LAW is to stay on trail, my questions are how do we stay on trail when there are huge things in the way blocking trail, then to top it off we get the state and other anti-orv groups complaining that orv users are not staying on trail. MUD, if you don't have an answer then do not reply, thanks in advance.
I pay more than just 16.25 MUD, there are GASoline taxes, sales taxes, and did I miss anything? Where did that 4million come from? And from what I heard that 16.25 will be $25.50 next year! I also heard that MI will be raising the Gasoline tax. But how much the taxes/fees are to use the trails has nothing to do with the other things MUD brings up here.
And again MUD/2trakr I'm sorry if anything I posted made you upset. I was just asking MUD and his friend blackballed questions about what they were posting, since I did not understand what they meant by some of their posts.
Sorry Mud.

MOTO,
I understand that you made no referance to I-75 and the trails.I used I-75 only as an example of what MY perception of how you 'maybe' thought our public trail maintenance system should model after. After all,you did complain about the downed trees and poor trail maintenace, all the while discussing that you PAY to have this same trail maintenance done with your money.
I said absolutly NOTHING with regards to plowing and salting a trail system,a clear misunderstanding on your behalf.[speaking of being OFF TRAIL?]

Maybe you should be just a little more careful before you start calling out folks like me on the above mentioned issues in your quote.Im a licensed and certified ORV/ATV safety Instructor for the DNR,am also the program Director for a Michigan based ORV Safety Association, and a nationally certified instructor.I have been invloved in 3-4 wheelers since 1983 and forgot more things about the sport of ORVing than what 90% of the riders in Michigan currently think they know, and you can also add 2-Trak to the list of knowledgeable ORV folks in this State.
Apology?

Maybe you missed it when I posted "And again MUD/2trakr I'm sorry if anything I posted made you upset."
MUD, you do owe me an appology, I am not related to your friend blackballed. I also posted that you are wrong about your I75 and snowplowing comments. None of that stuff you posted about me is true.
Mud what do you mean by this "Maybe you should be just a little more careful before you start calling out folks like me"? I just do not get it MUDDY4LIFE. At first you seemed nice, but now I'm not so sure you are. I said I was sorry if you took some of my questions to your posts the wrong way or they made you upset. I'm just unsure what happened here? Again I'm sorry Mud. Some just have to agree to disagree and leave it at that.
Mud, again you are taking what I posted and twisting it to fit into what you want it to say, but it does not say that. I was replying to your I75/snowplowing comments and it seems you can dish it, but not take it. I'm sorry Mud, I was joking about the ATV/ORV and the I75 things you bring up, but you were the one to post that stuff, I never posted anything like you did, I did not think or post that stuff about plowing and salting the ORV trails. Maybe blackballed is not your friend, I'm sorry if I 'maybe thought' that he was. I wish this has not gone like this and I'm not sure what went wrong, but maybe you should just get to the point and let me know. Like TIC posted "WE ARE ALL ON THIS WEB SITE FOR ONE REASON. WE ALL HAVE THE SAME LOVE FOR OUR ATV'S. remember that."
Now your post:
"Apology? what are you smoking?"
Mud, what is going on? This sure has nothing to do with what I posted either, unless it has something to do with my post on the last page about not being interesting in joining that club. Mud, please read what I post, not what you "maybe" thought I posted. Thanks.
Again Mud, I'm sorry.

MOTO,
I never twisted anything you say to my liking,it was YOU that called me out [challenged my intuition] when you stated that I was off my rocker and did'nt know what it took to clear a large downed tree..I took that personally, since I do assist in trail maintenace for our public trail system and I FULLY understand what it takes to clear a ORV trail. You further went on to BET that I did not know what it meant to have downed trees and brush blocking the trails.Than you went on to say that I you thought I dont know the differance between a ATV and an ORV was..
I also dont care to carry on these useless conversations, but I will respond when someone challenges my intuition and than goes on to BET me that I dont know certain things about it.
I will apologize to you if you feel hurt over my opinions, that is not my intent. We are BOTH ORV users and one thing im pretty sure of,is you and I want better things for a sport we both cherish.

I'm sorry Mud, I do not think I called you out [challenged your intuition]. I am sorry if you feel hurt over what I 'maybe' think you thought about what I posted. As far as the clear a tree and the what is a orv, those were in reply to your posts about those things you posted, and I was joking/making light of it all. I am sorry if it was not obvious, and Sorry if it made you angry or upset or I hurt anyones feelings. I mean you have over 1900 posts, of course you know what an atv is and how hard it is to clear brush. Again sorry if this joking made you feel hurt or angry, it was not my intent. I hope we can just leave it behind and not be angry at each other? I'm not mad at you. I look forward to future discussions with you Mud.
ORV trail maintenance in MI. and what you posted, quote from MR. mud,
"I hate to break it to you Mr Moto, but our ORV trails do not work the same way as the above and our public trail system has NOBODY except non-profit VOLUNTEER folks that do the same trail maintenace that you speak of above. The DNR does not hire outside contractors to do this work, nor do they do it themselves.FYI,about 53% of your 16.25 cents from your ORV sticker fund goes to non profit clubs and associations to maintain the trail system you speak of,and this gets done 2 times a yr."
Sorry but I see it in black and white on page2 of that web link (ORV trail maintenance in MI.) I posted above partly quoted here
"Non-profit organizations and units of government including federal (US Forest Service), state (Michigan DNR Forest, Mineral and Fire Management and Park and Recreation Divisions) and local units all are involved in trail maintenance."
You posted that they (DNR) do not, but they do stated in this ORV plan. So what next? You going to come back in here claiming I'm calling you out again? I atleast gave a link (ORV trail maintenance in MI.) to support what I am posting. I'm not going to argue with you that possibly some of the non-profit persons you know are doing the work as volunteers for their group, but the work is being reimbursed by the state.
mr. mud I'm not calling you out here, just pointing out what the state website (ORV trail maintenance in MI.) says about trail maintenance.
I'm sorry if you felt hurt or upset by any of my posts. I do not think any of them were.
I was asking you questions about things you posted.
Sorry MUD.

Since you know so darn much about all the questions you are asking, than WHY are you asking me questions for?Just fire up the DNR links that you have been, all the answers you need seem to be in there..And since your so knowledgeable in regards to trails and maintenance,im wondering when the last time you actually did any trail maintenance?
And while your at it, since not ONE PENNY of our trail maintenance money is paid for by the State of Michigan, please let me know HOW the State reimburses 'some volunteer' trail maintenance groups for their efforts. And show me ONE DNR officer that has done trail maintenance.
Please clerify this for me as I look forward to your answers.

As you've observed by their commentary...these guys will rarely (if ever) give you a straight answer on anything. Their only method of replying to legitimate questions regarding their involvement in representing 'your' views on Michigan orv issues...is to give you the very same treatment you've just received in Muddy's post above and earlier.
Why do you think I simply tell folks that this "aint my first rodeo" concerning each and every one of 'em?
Believe me, the same jokers attempting to hijack these issues today...are the same ones who tried to brush me off 7 years ago for simply poking my nose into this mess with innocent "Uhhhhh...what you doin?" questions.
"... Also I have some other simple questions that no one will answer...why are the current atv/orv trails not maintained?..."
If motorcyclsts are our #1 grant sponsor....and our two largest atv clubs have been reduced (after 7 years of failed maintenance programs) to begging this same group of cyclists for 'permission' to maintain just one of those trails (the massive "State House Trail")...why would a motorcycle group (and their new red-headed stepchildren) ever lobby for the kind of privatized modern maintenance equipment and 'reasonable' trail widths which would effectively eliminate not only their grant money...but any and all undu influence they ever had with the DNR over any and all other groups for the sake of keeping this antiquated system going in the first place?
If you think these people's solution to properly maintaining these trails is correct: "they are permenantly ruined...shut them down and build("ruin") virgin ground right next to them" (the only way they will ever keep this 'manual' system going and all talk of mechanized privatization perceived as 'blasphemy') ...then I guess there is nothing further to say. My feeling is that this $4 million would be but a drop in the bucket towards properly fixing what we have now....a problem that not even the DNR can quantify when pressed.(and if that doesn't cause a club or DNR land manager to hang his head in shame...I don't know what will).
By the way, don't you love how these guys immediately assume that anybody asking them a simple question....is automatically in some kind of giant 'conspiracy' against them involving myself?
How many people do you think I've witnessed this happen to who have simply wanted to learn more about how things work here in Michigan regarding their favorite sport?

Well it seems like you guys are having some excitment over here.Remember quadding is suppoesd to be FUN.
BTW I am also a member of atvoffroad.net and, as a matter of fact I am the new VP, and no,no one OWNS the club.We are just a group of people that got together to start a club so that we ride with like mind'ed people and try to better our sport if poss, and give back to the comunity. We are very family orented.I would like to invite you and anyone else here to check us out, and, if for some reason you cant get in [you do have to register] all you have to do is pm me here and I will speak with the web master and get r done.We have helped pass the Ogamaw ordience last fall and are working on others as need'ed.We donate to Toys for Tots{like the ride we had this weekend at the mounds}We donated money to the Rose City parks & Rec for playground equipment. We also do trail maintance when poss.but you would not belive the red tape involved in that. With ins. an all its pretty hard to do some things. And as far as the cond.of the trails... if someone has not done trail maintaince they have absuloetly no right to bitch about the trails at all!! I have only been quadding about 4 years now and have done trail maintance for 2 years, and I'm here to tell ya it's hard, thankless, back breaking work.As far as getting paid for it,yes, our club got paid this spring for the work we did last spring and last fall. There were about 14-15 of us that did it and that includ'ed my 70 year old Dad,no one want to do it but it needs to be done. We got somthing like $1700.00 [dont quote me on that]for 6 days of sweating, and busting our a$$'es.And any time I here someone wine about the trails it tends to bug me a little. If there is a tree branch or something like that in your way, move it,thats what we do.If the trail happen to be real bad from a storm or something, there should be a phone # at the trail head in the big sign box of the dnr unit for you to call and let them know. They will then get a hold of whom ever is responsable for that trail. The money clubs get paid comes from the orv sticker money that we all have to buy.No dnr personale is involved in trail maintance except for a trail tech thats supposed to ride the whole trail and make sure its done properly. And as far as the 4 million goes, its going to be used to build 750 to 800 more miles of trail and route in MI by the year 2008 and to try to improve trail maintance if poss, paying more $'s out or poss buying new [modern] equipment. There is even talk of changing the way trails are marked. If you really want to know more about it, go to the orv board meetings or check out the dnr web sites for the minutes of the last meeting. Now as far as this BlackedBalled guy goes,i dont know what to say,I've talked with John in the past a couple times and he seem'd like a nice guy, but, the crap I have seen him spewing on some of these web site is... bazzare to say the least. All he does is bitch about the problems but never has a solution. He seem to think everyone is out to do him in or something, when in fact they quite listening a long time ago.And that super secrert MMRC that he talkes about? Well thats somthing that was started by Dick to have all the club officers meet to figure out what every one wants before the orv board meeting.[kind of getting all of our ducks in a row you might say] to help prevent all the bitch sessions that go on at the board meetings.I hope this helps. If not let me know. Remember quadding is supposed to be FUN...Be part of the solution, not part of the problem. We have enough problems... Woody!

While I am thankful of your reply, why isnt mr mud replying?
My questions were about things mr mud posted.
"some excitment over here" what excitement? that mr mud is questioning what the state dnr has on its website? that mr mud can't stand it that someone found out that what the state/dnr website is not what mr mud is posting? I see no excitement, except that mr mud has a problem with what he posts "over here", then starts in on me for his posts. I'm just the messenger here, pointing out something that mr mud posted, that is not what the state dnr says about the states orv plan.
I never said that mr. mud owned any club, mr mud brought up that club and I asked if he had anything to do with it. Sorry that mr mud got you to reply here, but i was just asking questions about the things mr mud posted here in these forums and he did not have to reply at all, but he did and I looked up some of the stuff he was posting and I found that some of it did not line up with what the State of MI has on their website (you can go look yourself). As far as your branch in the trail comment, that's uncalled for sir, I posted HUGE TREES, not branches, and same goes to mr mud, he posted branches too, sorry sirs, but you both do not listen. I think I already replied to mr mud/2trakr that I have no interest in your club.
As far as the trail maintenance you or your club did, I see by reading the State's website on that, that there is some paperwork(you called it red tape) to do, but then when in time was there not alot of paper work for anything related to govenment? Also it looks like it is a grant system to get paid for the work. I think that that whole trail maintenance/grant plan the state has in place sounds outdated and needs to be updated. There must be some other state that has a better system to compare to and try to get some ideas to update the current one.
Maybe you missed my post back a page or so I'll quote myself here
Some (including me) can not make all those ATV board meetings. Sometimes some of us out here have to earn a living.
I think my family would not like it if I lost a job to go to that meeting. Ya think?

My opinion.
