Default Michigans L.P county road openings

In Michigans Lower Penninsula,ORVs must be operated on private property with permission from the land owner,OR on a DESIGNATED and posted open ORV trail system..However,a County within the Lower Pennisula's jurisdiction, has the authority to adopt its own County ORV policies seperate from State law..This is exactly what 4 counties in Michigan's L.P. chose to do for the start of 2005 and for the remaining 3 yrs..The new ordinance gives ORVers the priveldge to operate their ORVs on the right of way of County roadways in the approved Counties in a single file manner,in the same flow of traffic and at speeds of under 20mph,during daylight hrs. This will all be up for reveiw in 3 yrs.

Our ATV club [ATV OFF ROAD CLUB of Michigan] had a meeting this past Saturday in Ogemaw County..The CHEIF of POLICE and the MAYOR both made a very pleasant presentation to our club members..The Cheif and Mayor both welcomed us to their county and had nothing but good things to say about the access and revenue that this new ordinance has done for the econmic growth of their community since its adoption on Janurary 1st of this year...They praised our club for its ORV Patrol members who patrol the ORV area in their County and for all the hard work and efforts that were set forth in getting approval to make these County openings a reality. Both said that neighboring communities should also concider doing the samething in their Counties..Neither the Mayor or the Cheif had anything negative to report about the new County ORV ordinance.

It also was said that FINALLY,the DNR are even starting to lighten up their arrogant attitudes towards ORV users in this area..

Sounds like a win/win situation to me

I just received a ticket for riding in gladwin co. It used to be orv trails but they closed them 2 years ago and we were trying to find the trails when we were ticketed.

Iosco county has opened the roads also. Emmet County is close to doing the same. Several Countys on the North, west side of the state are also.
I am the president of the Manistee County ATV assoiation, and we are close to opening the Seasonal, and secondary County roads here, All we need is $$$$ to fund a Sheriff patrol, and road repair. We are working on a grant, for seed $$$. We plan to have a special Trail permitt to fund this. $25 residents $50 non residence
The DNR doesn't aprove of our plan, and won't give us any funding, from the orv permit. They don't give grants for the shoulder of the road.

Will be checking out the new web site. The mayor of Your town of BURTON stopped into my store yesterday, He is into ATV'S, and wants to make things happen on the roads in Mich. We all need to jam the Michigan Legistlators to make a off HWY, street legal license for ATV'S, for County roads, except Class A County roads.
