Default A solution to the NY State trail problem

As some of you probably know,NYS raised their ATV registration fees to analyze whether or not NYS needs ATV trails. They are going to spend a few hundred thousand doing a study on it.

I have their study for them. Yes, NYS does need an ATV trail system. Open the state snowmobile trail system to ATVs when there is no snow cover. Problem solved.

I'll wait for my check from NYS but I'm not holding my breath.

Wow...so they need to do a study to see if they need trails for which they've been collecting money for for years. Hmmm. Definately sounds like a gov. job.

Pataki's nephew needed a patronage job making $250,000/year!!! The study is a joke.

There was an article in the Buffalo News that Cattaraugus county itself has 450 miles of sled trails. They get a ton of NYS tax $$$ every year to support it too. I guess the problems for ATV's is those trails cross a lot of public property. Atv's would never get that kind of access

New York State has too many enviromental extremists with too much disposable income that influence the politicians. The state has no intentions in promoting ATVs as a recognised form of recreation. ATVer's are considered enviromental terrorists (some of the ones I've seen riding are close to that discription, another thorn in our side).

The state has been busy buying up or obtaining conservation easements on all the land it can get it's hands on, backed by extremist groups such as the Nature Conservency. These lands are then classified as enviromentally sensitive and off limits to motorized vehicles. What really ticks me off is that they are using MY tax dollars to do this.

Anyone waiting for a trail program in NY might as well give it up. Sorry to be so negative, but the truth isn't pretty a lot of the time. New York is NOT ATV friendly (but they sure do appreciate that registration fee we are stupid enough to pay).

Oh yeah I know we'll never see a trail system here. Even though we have tons of open space for it. The liberals in NYC and on Long Island will control what goes on up even in Western NY. And of course we have our own brand of those idiots in Syracuse, Rochester, and Buffalo.

Funny how NY is so sled friendly and doesn't want a thing to do with ATVs. Could that be because all the judges and lawmakers all ride $10K+ sleds? Sounds fishy to me.

The whole thing is really dumb because a good number of us are taking our money out of state (PA) to ride. Everyone I met the last time I was at Majestic in PA was from either Rochester or Buffalo.

It's funny you mention that because every time I go to Majestic, I notice the whole lot is filled with NYS plates. You'll find just a couple PA's, every one else is from NYS

Northern ATV'er you summed it up pretty well. NYS has some crazy logic when it comes to ATV's. They don't like where you ride your ATV, yet they also won't give you land to ride to solve the problem
