Sparky, thanks for the follow -up info.

Hey on your Harley, is a soft tail a particular size?

Also over in Manchester area is your area, deep woods / forest on ATV trail riding? I used to fly over to Exeter periodically to recertify as a Sigarms (firearms) armor. Today, looks like nice weather in your region - mid 70s.

DB, thanks, and happy birthday to you too !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sparky, I am progressing, it just seems sooooo slow, but I am getting there, give me a few years or a year and a half, and I'm sure I will be doing everything I used to do, it does have me looking at life different and changed me for the better. Glad to hear you healed up so fast and everything is good, I wish I was in the clear, and not extras attached to me.

can one of you post the site on here for the osteo??? I would like to read that since I found out about a year ago I am lactose intolerant so milk don't do much for me.

My softail is a 1450cc, or 88 inch, twin cam. MFEMFEMFEM is a city. I guess it's the largest in the northeast (Maine, NH, VT). There is ok riding around here. I like some trails in Henniker.

Bitchy, I had just done searches on "bone healing", "bone strength", and "healing broken bones".

Sparky,
I read the reviews on the softtails. Sweet! 2000 was the year, they made the improvements. Shows an average (city & Hwy) of 42 mpg, nice. What color is your?
I see Henniker is about 25 miles from Manchester. Henniker area looks like the trails travel through woods with lots of small creeks and ponds. I would think they are fun to explore, if there are not a lot of people, etc.
I too apprecriate the info you gave BBL. I'm also lactose intolerent.
LW.

BBL,
My condolences on Rick Joplin. I noted your accident was two months, later. I see how things could pile up in your world. I'm glad you could understand my luck & depression feelings from the past. I think depression is sometimes about how we see our world and our future. How are you feeling emotionally today, on a scale to 1 to 10? 10 being your best day ever.
Any changes in pain or pain meds this week.
LW.

LW, Thanks for your thoughts, yeah things pile up pretty quick after a funeral, then breaking my back, it hit me all at once.

On a scale .... recently the pain has been going away, if 10 is the best, I'd have to say I have had a few days where I was at a nine. Today I'd say maybe a 7 or so, (got a massage last night from the guy I am seeing) .... can't complain, but I can still feel the rods, and it gets real annoying, sleeping on my back is a challenge.

It seems I have SOMETHING in common with everyone on here. birthdays, backs, and that damn lactose .....

Tomorrow is the next dr visit, you all will hear from me tomorrow, hope it's all good news!!!

*UPDATE*

Howdy y'all, Today was my doctor visit, do you want the good, better, or best news???? I am pretty pleased and happy today!!! doc says that everything is healing great, and you can hardly tell where it was broke. I also asked about my insurance, and if I ever wish to have the rods and screws removed my insurance will pay for that also (which I was told by a friend of a friend they wouldn't). And a few of you have asked about therapy, I asked and he said after the 6 month mark he would recommend it more than this point in time, he said if I had to go back to a job where I was lifting, or moving, or a lot of action he'd recommend it sooner, but he said if I wanted to go to therapy a little after 6 months, he'd be up to that and it could and would probably help me out, so I'm sure I will give that a try. All in all, things to him are looking good, and this visit gave me a good outlook on things, just hope it keeps going for the better, and never the worse again.

Hope everyone has a great day, and enjoys the weekend!!!!!! Take care!!!

BBL

BBL,
I'm excited. Now I know you are track. Please bare with me, like DB I'm a Dad too. I thought about therapy and why it was so important to me. You are entering a point in life that body toning is important. Many women bodies start changing do to pregnancy, life events, or just not doing regular toning and aerobic exercises. Before they know it, they are 35 years old and found some how they gained weigh. This of course is the same for men, except for pregnancy thing obviously.
Personally for me in my mid twenties, I was in the best shape of my life, then I was a fireman with L.A. County Fire Department (not today). It was too easy, my body was tone. I worked out daily and could eat anything. However over time, as I got older my body started changing, my career changed, I had to develop and maintain a routine that was stricter, not harder. You know eating right, toning, and aerobics. I was 49 years old when I had my accident. My workouts were good, but my eating right was poor. I listen to you. Unlike me, it sounds like you eat right. You are very active. But I never heard you were doing a true toning and aerobic program prior to your accident. I know you will now develop those life skills when you go to therapy. Thank you! BBL, I'm guarded. I want to protect my daughters and you, I give too much advice. It's my Dad thing.
Okay now let's talk about the rods. During the first 1.5 years, they hurt. I thought I wanted those suckers out ASAP! Then over time and with regular toning, they rarely bother me. I do have concern that pressure from the rods are going to damage the normal vertebrae. All I know today, 53 years old next month, workout routines are extremely critical. When I am on travel for work or vacation and I don't workout, I suffer increase chance of pain, loss of strength, and lower endurance. I found rowing for 5 to 10 minutes with my weigh lifting routine, 3 days a week, it almost guarantees no pain. Also I do walking and easy running routines on other days to build endurance. I'm not back 100%. I am still improving. Currently I am trying to add a regular motocross workouts. Not high speed, gentle for strength and endurance. Using a great ATV, I do whoops, small jumps, hills, and rough trails for an hour. I rest when I need to in-between. Not too crazy. Like you my injuries occurred during a motocross accident. Boy, when I finish, I feel great. I really mean it. Somedays I go on long trail rides, they don't much for me. Enough for now, bottom line, I'm extremely happy you will start therapy in the near future and I assure you the rod pain will slowly fade away with proper toning (though not fast enough). LW.

I hope like hell you are correct about the pain the rods are giving me, I hope it fades in time, even though it will seem like forever. I usually ride at the dunes in Oklahoma, and plan on going back soon, but going to keep it easy, all 4 wheels are staying on the ground and going around the big dunes, and avoiding the whoops, I just hope by next year I will be able to ride doubles again, when I feel like riding B*t&h.
Before my accident about all I did was walk, other than that I didn't do much training, I went to a gym with a friend, he showed me what to do, but I stuck to walking, and easy weights. So yeah I will try therapy and at least get some ideas or knowledge of what to do with my back the way it is.
I am glad you are happy with my recovery, the thing the doctor told me that made me the happiest is after 3 months and 1 week, the doctors and assistants can't tell in my X rays where the break was, that was good news in my mind.
Once again thanks for your help and caring, along with everyone elses!!!!!

Not to be depressing or anything.. but the bone is the easy part. It is the soft tissue and muscle tone that is where you have your work cut out for you. It won't be easy, but I think you are up to it.
Work with your therapist to develope a workable routine. That is what they do. Not to criticise you rdoctor, but he is a specialist in putting bones back together and making sure they function well mechanically. The therapist works with him to strengthen the soft tissues and tone muscles to take advantage of what you have left to work with. That is their area of expertise. listen to their experience and advice. Even more important that you get one that specializes in sports medicine. Your needs are unique, and you don't wnat someone who specializes in blue haired old ladies learning how to use their new hip. You need a more agressive program to whip that body back into shape.
I won't promise you will be back to where you were before the accident, but they should be able to get the most out of what you have to work with. As you can probably tell, I swear by my therpist. Not AT them... all because I chose wisely.
