Default 2-STROKE BAN

Does anyone know where i can find out about the 2-stoke ban in each state. I live in Oregon. We have heard of course that they wont be making them anymore. But we are wondering when we will not be able to ride them. We go on dirt and sand. All we have been able to hear is of course rumors and we want the facts. Thanks for any help you may have

you can still ride them, you just wont be able to buy them new anymore. Like they did with the 3 wheelers.

They banned 2-stokes? I thought the emissions regulations for 2-stokes were just up'ed a lil-bit, I haven't heard anything about a ban on them? Plus they still make 2-stroke dirt bikes.

There is no outright "ban" on 2 strokes. You will see many models missing from the lineups for '07 because the current, widely used 2 stroke technology will not pass the new, stricter emissions testing. There are some outboard motor makers and sled manufacturers that currently produce compliant engines, and will sell said engines through '07 and beyond. Legislation from local government could potentially ban 2 strokes(as you see in CA for certain areas at certain times of the year) however I don't think you will see much of this as everything that will be sold as of the '07 model year will be low emissions.

I think on the federal level, two-strokes can still be produced (although you will see them in far fewer numbers), but because they don't meet emissions standards they are supposed to be for "closed course racing" only......right! You may have trouble registering them, in some states.

California tried to ban them outright, but the compromise that was reached was the red/green sticker program where 2-strokes can't be ridden during the high polution summer months, in some urban areas. Oregon is kind of a leftist state, and the leftists love to do "social engineering", so I would be worried about the future if I were an Oregon resident..........

Locally, it is ironic that the new move toward 4-stroke thumpers, has left a ton of used 2-strokes for sale, cheap. Every teenage kid who couldn't afford a bike in the past, can now easily afford a cheap used 125/250 to kill themselves on! I think this has actually had the effect of increasing the number of 2-strokes you find out there on the trail (????). Kind of counter productive, huh.

oh i agree my 250r was way below what it may have been 2 yrs ago
But oh dam well,
the parts are cheaper
they go faster
so i'll keep buyin 2 strokes until it gets to expensive to buy the 2 stroke oil +plus the gas
whats this world coming to

That's why KTM took the headlight off of their 2-stroke models, so they could label them as "closed course models". LOL, sneaky KTM

And that is correct, there is NO ban on 2-strokes. It is just that every recreational model has to meet a certain emmision standards next year, and 2-smokes unfortanetly doesn't meet those standards. When the new wave of 4-strokes are around for a while, maybe the "new thing" will be 2-strokes again? Clean burning ones that is.

Default 2-STROKE BAN

Just to let you all know in PA and MD they are planning on banning all two-stroke quads by 01/01/2008 on any track. At least that is what I have heard and saw posted at on MX event in western PA about one month ago. Does anyone get the idea that those companies that don't have a two stroke are all for this ban? I have seen and eaten more 4 strokes for lunch with my 01 Blaster and my 87 Polaris 250 cyclone with that wonderful pull start. My blaster has eaten a couple of 660 raptors and spit them out in less than one length on the track. If anyone else knows what's going on let me know because I really don't want to lose my favorite rides.

01 Blaster ready too chew some more 4 stroke pipes
87 Cyclone can't keep a great quad down
