Carson National Forest to Host Public Meeting on New Travel Management Rule

Taos, NM, June 22, 2006 – The Carson National Forest will be hosting public meetings to gather input on the new Forest Service Tavel Management Rule. Meetings have been scheduled in all the Ranger Districts host communities and in Taos.

The new Rule requires that each National Forest designate a system of roads, trails and areas open to motorizes travel. Once the system of roads, trails and areas are designated, motorized travel off the designated system will be prohibitied.

The public meeting are designed to include an overview presentation by the Forest of the new Tavel Management Rule and a map displaying the current designated system. Participants will then have an opprotunity to provide their input about what, if any, changes should be considered for the new designated system.

After the information is gathered the Carson National Forest will develop a proposal which will be made available to the public for additional comment. Additional public meetings will be held to review the proposal at that time.
