03 Silverado Z-71 information please!!
After I graduate from my local community college I am planning on buying me a brand new Silverado Z-71 to get me to and from my University! Any owners please give me some comments on how much you love your truck, and what features you love about it. Also I want to know some 1/4 mile times, I have seen a 02 Silverado short bed 2wd run a 15.8 with a K&N filter charger. I know that 5.3L 285hp has enough power to move that Z-71 pretty quick for its size.

i have a 5.3 2wd 03 and it moves/tows better than my old mans 01 z71 5.3. from what i can see other than exterior and interior design the turcks remain very similiar in power and chassis. i wish i had a z71 for the suspension and 4wd but dont expect it to be out running a 2wd 5.3 because of the weight.
PS - we both love our trucks.

I had a 2001 Z71 EXT cab and it was pretty quick, but it had to scream high in the RPMs. Also, it hunted gears like crazy, interior rattled, poor fit & finish. Couldn't hold OD (or drive) pulling 2 ATVs going up the slightest incline. A few other issues...it's gone now!

i have a z71 and its probably the last one i'll buy.
the good- it drives well and has good road feel and can take curves pretty good. the 5.3 engine is smooth and likes to wind out, but there is a cutoff at 97MPH.
the interior is nice and the 4x4 system with autotrac is geat - not a problem so far. But crap like switches and window motors go out frequently. and dont ever screw your computer or the overly fragile electrical system up by improperly unhooking your battery or jumping the thing off - my cousins z71 had to wind up getting 3 new computers put in, and to this day the truck still isnt right. he should get rid of it IMO.
mine has not been a "bad" truck, it's just that it has its quirks and i think it should not have had the problems for spending the $$$$ for a "top of the line" american made truck that is supposed to be
"like a rock." yeah its like a rock allright - oneday it tears @ss and the next day it runs like a POS. i got one word for chevy's "Leard Adaptive Transmission" - SUCKS! it will not shift the same pattern 2 days in a row b/c it's always "learning" how I drive. it must be a dumb@ss- b/c years later its till trying to learn....and dont get the dealer to re-program it for you with an "updated" program - hell they screwed it up worse. I took it back the next day and had them reprogram it to my 'outdated" program - what was originally on it. at least it was more tolerable.
i dont care - call me whatever you want, my next truck will be a toyota...

DO NOT get push button if you are planning on lifting it because all the people i know that lifted theirs screwed up the 4wd system.
If you ask me I wouldn't get push button anyways because it makes you feel lazy. and don't tell me the don't make them any more because I have seen at least 5 that has had the floor lever. just my .02

I got a 02 5.3l z71 has been a great truck I drive up to lake tahoe alot towing a trailer with 3 Quads and one more in the bed. It hauls up the hill's with ease. only down fall i have is 4 wheeling in the front likes to slide and the turning radius leaves something to be desired. it is due to the independent front suspension. but overall it has been a great truck.
