you from the austin texas area? i just sold my yz426 to a man in austin. he races at some track there in the over 40 class. can't remeber the name of the track though. you ever hit 6th street? it's been a while since i was down there but when i was working there we used to go to a place called maggie mays. they had a demestic side and an inported beer side. yeah 2003 sucked but at least i have med insurance so those bills stayed under 15k and some of the repairs on my wifes car was covered by the extended warranty. and of course i was to blame for the broken leg since i was the one who bought my son the dirt bike. he was unloading it from the trailer and it fell across his leg just right to break it! Only two more monthes and 2004 will be here and something tells me it will be better. I like the powerstroke but i will be the first to admit that the cummins is a good engine.

Naw, I'm in Charlotte, NC. I would be willing to drive to Austin for MSRP on an SRT-10 though.

Only time I was ever in Austin, I got drunk about 10 minutes after I got there and didn't sleep for 48 hours and didn't sober up until about 20 hours after I left. Damn those Texans can party.

I can sympathize about the back...when your back acts up, its pure hell. And tell your son the following:

Bones heal
Pain is temporary
Chicks dig scars
Glory is forever

Of course, if the bike falls across his leg, you can just go ahead and scratch the "glory" part.

I work for Cummins and you are correct, we are a publicly traded company not owned by Ford. Ford bought 10% of the Cummins stock a few years back and that is what caused the rumor.

You can't get the 48RE in the SRT because it won't hold up to the power (500hp). We have to seriously detune our 5.9LB diesel engine to not destroy the drivetrain components. However, the Dodge chassis' are getting better and we are up to 555 lbft delivered to the automatic, but it is still torque managed. If you look at our medium duty B engine, it puts out 800 lb ft of torque. Same long block, different turbo and calibration. That's why its so easy to add 100-200 hp to the trucks. The motor is already setup for it, the rest of the truck is not.

Cummins just signed another engine supplier contract with DCX to be the exclusive diesel engine supplier on the Dodge HD Ram through 2010. If they were to put another motor in, it would be the MB 906, but it doesn't fit well in the current chassis.

I always like to point out that you can order a Ford F-750 with a Cummins B engine that has a higher GVW than the same chassis with the powerjoke.

the reason the ford trucks have more advertised power is because their chassis are setup to handle the torque. Plus Ford rates their engines differently. If they say 325hp, it means if you have the ac compressor clutch engaged and the cooling fan fully engaged the engine will put out 325. If those components are not on, it does not make 325hp. With the Cummins, you get what we say is available all the time.

If you don't believe the Cummins is a superior engine, Take one apart and compare the internals to the Powerstroke or Duramax. The Cummins is perhaps the single greatest example of overkill in the auto industry today. Its an engine that was designed for medium duty trucks.

All that, and my '99 Ram Cummins 3500 dually still gets 23 MPG on the highway.

If you're really curious about what the Cummins can do, just look at the specs for the Cummins ISB engine on the Cummins website...I think you'll be surprised.

btw bigblock, I just bought two Sterling LT9500s for one of my sister companies in South America and we spec'd them out with 330 horse ISLs. It'll be interesting to see how they perform in those types of conditions (crossing the Andes twice a day over 10% and higher grades at 15,000 feet on bad roads).

What does it say to you when GM won't put "Isuzu" on their trucks and Ford won't put "Navistar" on their trucks, But Dodge emblazons their trucks with Cummins badges.

Cummins are the best. Duramax, Powerstroke...they don't even come close. I do like the Allison trannys on the Chevys though.

Actually, Top Fuel cars are putting out in excess of 6000 HP. But these are just estimates because they can't/don't dyno them. Just think 1 or 2 cylinders put out more power than EVERYTHING you own. Food for thought

Less Than Dodges Cummins But Thats Ok! Less Than Fords Powerstroke But My Dad Owns A Chevrolet 2500HD With The Duramax 6.6L (400)CID Diesel Engine And It Has Gotten The Job Done Just As Good As The BIGGEST Cummins And Fords PowerStroke V8 With 560Ftlb.
