I was wondering if I could get a quad for 1500 bucks that could keep up with a $1500 dirt bike. I've seen some pretty good bikes for less, but is there a quad to beat it?

RM,

I get what you are asking, but there are too many unknowns and variables to give you a flat out correct answer.

Bikes and quads have their pros and cons. For sandy open areas, I would definitely go with a quad. For tight cornering, narrow trials, a bike would probably be the vehicle of choice. This is based on the fact that you don't really have a preference of what you ride.

You have to determine what your riding options will be, then try to make your decision from there.

I grew up on bikes, but I now have a quad. I happen to prefer a quad to a bike -- you fall a lot less I love it. I don't even try to compare my quad to a bike.

To get to your direct question; I think $1,500 will get you the same all around performance in either a bike or a quad. Remember, there are pros and cons with both. Try to decide on the one that will come out with more pros.

Take a look at Trader Online. It has been a long time since I have had anything to do with motorcycles, so I hope you have some idea of what you want to compare. The above site, should give you an indication of pricing.

Im having that same dellema, either a banshee for sand/harescrambles, or a motox bike. on one hand I would like the quad for pure speed in the dunes, but the bike wont fair as well. but I would like to race motox, I did a few years ago and love it, but I would have to give up sand. one other thing I dont like about quads is ability to jump.
but whatever I get, Im sure Ill be happy!

btw, I have almost 4k to spend, so I have enough for a banshee.

I watched the two and four wheelers race at Glamis. The best four wheelers were quick, but not as quick as all of the two wheelers.

If you really want to go fast the answer is a motorcycle. The minute you say you want a quad that’s as fast as a bike you’ve lost it. A quad needs about twice the displacement of the motorcycle to be even close.

There are high performance quads compared to other quads. They aren’t high performance compared to a motorcycle. I’m tired of falling off motorcycles and I don’t heal as fast as I used to. For me the choice is easy.

Got to agree with you on the falling off part. Way to many wrecks on a dirt bike on the trails. Quads are much more stable.
