OH! Wait, maybe we did that when we put in the MSD ignition stuff. Or was it that Mallory garbage? I forget.

There is a Ford F-150 site that specifically argues against lowering the tailgate to improve gas mileage...it says that if you really want to get your best gas mileage, one thing to do is keep the tailgate up....i don't understand it either...just stating what i read.

Well, no one has mentioned it yet: Plugs. Get some good scatter-pattern plugs. Multi-point of fire, like the old Splitfire.
I put a set in my 66 Scout and it improved quite a bit. Up to like 12 instead of 4...
Don't put these in newer computer controlled beasts, as it throws the computer off. Quite a help to older engines though. Hotter spark for a cleaner and more complete burn of fuel = more power and better mileage. And it does it without welding a hole in your piston.
(Do NOT try Accel hi-power coils on a 66 Scout...)

Well before we bought the Hummer, and before the hummer we had the avalanche, but before that we had a 2002 limited edition excursion. One thing that helped milage for us was called the "Tornado" It went into the intake tubing and "swirled" the air requiring less air for combustion. But right now we get say....9-10mpg highway, and towing the four wheelers I'd say...about 7-9mpg. But if you can afford the truck you damn well should be able to afford the gas.
