Where will they stop???
#1
Im just sitting here wondering where the battle for the biggest motor will stop. I can't help but think that the government will eventually put a stop to it if the atv companies don't. In a way I think it is sort of strange that they keep getting bigger since the racing industry still builds off of the 250R. In my mind handling is more important than speed, but I am sure alot of people will disagree. At this pace it is no doubt we will see a 1000cc motor on a quad within the next 3-5 years if this keeps up. The thought of a 1000cc monster scares me since I see so many people who have no riding experience buying 400s,650s and I'm sure they will buy 660s too. I think people will start getting hurt and the Government will step in again and it will go down hill from there.
Sorry this post may bore some people but I was wandering if others were thinking this way or if I am the only one???
Later days, until then ride harder.

Well, I doubt we will ever see anything over 799cc's. That is the limit nationaly that the government considers an ATV. I forget the term used for machines with larger engine. But what I am saying is, if you have a larger engine, then you will not be allowed on federal ATV trails. Most states will not license you as an ATV either, there for making it illegal to travel on the state ATV trails as well.
Some states have set a lower limit then 799cc's, but I am not sure which ones.
BUT, I see where you are coming from on your post, and must agree. They can easily make smaller engines more powerful. I think it is a sales thing. People want the biggest, baddest, ATV out there, so each manufacturer is trying to make that machine. If they sell these things to inexperienced riders, then more and more people will get hurt.

I agree with you on making smaller motors stronger it seems to me that the companies intentionally tune these motors down so that people have to go bigger and better, I suppose that is the way big business works.
By the way Lurch while you were answering my post I was looking at you site. LOL Looks good keep up the good work.

I was forced to buy a ATV sticker for my Toytoa truck when caught driving on the dunes to fetch a blown blaster, It is actually licenced as a ATV and can be driven on any Trail in the national forest. that makes me the owner of a 3000cc 4X4 ATV that has A/C and Heat.

Those stickers are put on them to warn people of the danger, but they also say that any one 16 or under should not ride anything more then about 100cc's, Im 14 and my friend has a 125 that i cant even get ^ a 5-10 degree hill on. So they do go a little over board on the ages.

I agree totally...I read a review today where a new model of Susuki "rocket" now boast speeds near 200 mph..street legal ..any fool can buy !
It's funny..most riders like their current ride but always want more top end..speed is only dictated by the size of your wallet...and does not always equate with "fun" !!
