Do you want a motocross, or off-road bike??? If off-road, take a good look at he CRF250X or even the CRF450X if you are a big guy.
One of the kids who rides with us has 200 original hours on his CRF250R, so they aren't as maintenence inteasive as everybody says. He rides off-road though, not MX. Still, I would never go that long without doing a top end and valves!

Normally I would agree with shmee on the magazine comment, but this article was written by Eric Gorr. And if shmee thinks he knows more about motorcycle engines than Eric does, maybe shmee could direct all of us to his personal website and we can ask him all our technical question's. Eric is probubly very busy anyway.

For me i wouldn't get anything other then a 2-stroke.
The 4-strokes have WAY to much to go wrong with them.
A top end every now and then is no big deal. 150 bucks at most for a 250.
And if you're a power junky the new 05 YZ250 and 125 are reworked and even faster then before.
Personally i don't like the 4-stroke bikes at all. I don't like the power band or just the way they feel.
But thats just me.
And a well taken care of 2-stroke lasts forever.
I have a 91 CR250 that still as it's OEM topend from honda. it's never been replaced.
It will be this spring. but the motor was broke down last spring and the rings where still in great shape.
14 years on a top end has gotta be a record.
I only run the best oils in my bikes too. I think this does make a big differance.

ok guys, i think im going to stick with the Crf250r, im not a big guy definetely im only 5'8'' and 135 so im pretty small but i am fairly strong for my size. i sat on the rm-z and it just feels bigger than the honda. plus i dont think i want a 4 speed, im already pretty used the 5 gear setting. supposedly the honda has the best suspension for the 4 stroke 250s and also the best torque and horsepower so i think i found myself a winner but i m still not absolutely sure i can always change my mind. what else do you guys say? especially those who own new four stroke 250's what do you liek and disliek about your bike?
