Default Problems with jetting my 400ex

I have a 2001 400ex, it has k&N air filter, 162 main jet, white brothers E series full exhaust, lid off the air filter. My problem is the midrange is spudering, i dont know weather it is getting too much fuel or not enough. The idle is running good and the top end is running good, so bascally im just looking for suggestions on which way to move the clip on the needle, so i dont have to do it twice. Thank you

What irritates me is!
Those 6-packs work pretty good.

You should have gone 1/2 turn out on the fuel screw, go down 1 notch on the needle clip (towards long tapered end, will move away from seat) then change the main. 162 may be fat depending on your elevation.

You can use the lid to help you figure it out. Put the lid back on, and if the sputtering goes away, or it gets better, than the midrange was too lean. Putting the lid on, richens all the circuits of the carb.
