I like the low gear, slow and easy approach.
Go as fast as you have to to keep momentum.
I used to rock and jump up and down w/
my honda 300 2wd w/ vampires. That technique worked well with that atv. But with my locked and lifted grizzly with 27" vamps I just let it take me where it wants to go instead of
fighting it. It usually follows the path with
less resistance. Another tip, never enter a hole you have never been to before without a friend. Too many walks home taught me that lesson.

Ive found that when u get in stuck in the deep ruts just standing on one of the floorboards keeping your weight on one side of the machine will make it relatively easy to get out but it WILL NOT work in the really deep ruts. And mudmachine i know what your talkin bout with them drunk people out there riden. At Karnack this guy got stuck and i went to help get him out and he was swayin back and forth on his quad and talkin incoherently but i did end up pulling him out.But after i got him out he turned around and went right back in so i left.

Hey guys!,
It's been a while since any of us posted here, so I figured that I better come up with more tips. After wrestling for 5 1/2 hours putting the locker in my front differential this week, I took it out for a test spin. For some reason (I can't remember why) I had turned my idle srew down to where the bike had a very low idle point. I found out that if you're planning on riding in deep mud/water that it is better to bump up the idle setting so that if you have to get off of the gas while going through a deep hole the bike will idle high enough not to worry about water entering the tail pipe. A solution to this is to snorkel the exhaust pipe (Which is my next venture!)
Also now with the locker on the 450S I no longer have to worry about the 3 wheel drive problem, and if you're serious about mud riding it is a must!

Hey BONER!,
Yeah, it is a little harder to steer at very low speed (crawling) on hard pack surfaces, but definitely makes a difference in the mud! WOW! I never knew how much better 4wheel drive was over 3wheel drive. i have gone through spots where I would normally have to use the front brake trick with no problems. I can tell where it makes a difference. I can feel spots where I knew before it would 3 wheel on me but now the tire that would usually stop spinning finds traction and pulls right through. As for the 28" Vamps I'm waiting on a year end bonus right now. Hopefully I will be able to place the order this coming week. I decided to keep my 27x12x12 Vamps instead of selling them so I can try combinations with the 28". Maybe 28" on the front and 27" on the rear. Who knows?!
