I'd love to see the small bore diesels in cars and trucks. But small bore diesel by the big three would not be welcomed by some.... Diesels are not sexy or viewed as the "in thing here" in the America and Canada. I do not see the average guy or lady out there pumping DF#2 and
getting it on their hands and smelling of it all day. When they find out it holds say 11 qts of oil
and a 11 dollar filter.... What....where is the 23.95 oil change? Well for those folks ODB3 will in their future. Time will tell if the small bore will make it this time.

They're very popular in Asia and Europe due to diesel tax breaks and MPG, selling more units than gas rigs. I believe they're now 68% of European car maket sales. I recently drove a Mercedes new generation diesel E series as a loaner and it doesn't have the smell, the sound or glow plug starting wait period of past generations. They're so efficient I had to try hard to smell diesel at the exhaust pipe tip. Acceleration was equal to our E320 gas V6, even from a dead stop, and it gets 45mpg highway as versus the gas rig's 32mpg. I'll probably buy one when we replace the current vehicle. 13MPG is a lot of oil/filter changes.

In Oregon you can't pump your own fuel, and with current EPA standard fuel pumps, nozzle controls and fuel caps, I've never seen or smelled an attendant spill a drop while refueling my F350. If you look at big rigs, the formerly common diesel spill marks on fuel tanks hasn't been there for several years.

Whats the price on Fuel where your at? Gas is $ 2.52 for Reg. unleaded, $ 2.89 for Blended DF#2 Thats in Town here. You can save a few cents if you shop around.

About the same in Southern Oregon. We pay around $.30/gal surcharge for diesel if under I believe 16,000GVW. That's to supplement highway funds. We're unable to spread that out and pass part of it to over-the-road rigs as their lobby is far too strong and they threaten sharp freight rate increases to our mostly trucking dependent economy.

Out of curiosity, I just did a spreadsheet on 10,000 miles at 32mpg with gas at $2.60/gal and 45mpg with diesel at $2.90/gal.

Gas - $812.50
Diesel - $644.44

I see the savings as 233 bottles of Bud light.

I hear ya on the tax on fuel. New York will tax anything that moves, that does not move, is living, was living, never was living. We have sales tax, sin tax, estate tax...and they still do not have enough. New York would never let the trucking companies go .30 a gallon tax go by..
They would tax the trucking companies and the under 16,000gvw as equals. Basiclly if you have cash on hand they want it....not some of it ...but all of it....Hillary "08" Were willing to share the pain we New Yorkers have felt since she took office.....LOL
