I think minimum wage then was .95 an hour. Remember when it got bumped to 1.10, like that was big money back then.

Sure was fun being 16 ini 1977 when the used car lots had nothing but GTO's, Roadrunners, 65 Mustangs like candy, all for $1500 and down, with under 100K on the odometer. 49 cent gas in Washington back then too, if you could scrape up 4 or 5 bucks between a few guys you could go cruisin' Riverside in Spokane all night and watch the street racing.
Them days is gone for good.

No fancy car for me. 71 Capri that I bought for 280 dollars. Ran the pee pee out of that thing till I finally blew up the motor 2 years later. Who'd have thought those thing need oil changes?
Can't even buy a total junker for that today.

Grew up on a farm so I can't remember when I didn't have chores to do. I think the first paying job I had was when Dad gave me "A man's wages for doing a man's job". $1.00 an hour for driving tractor 10 hours a day, 6 days a week. Think I was 9 or 10 then. Course he made me put all but $10.00 a week in the bank "to buy your own place one day". It worked. That would have been 1950 or 51. Bought my first vehicle in 1956, a new Ford F350. Still have it too.
