First jobs?
#1
Well guys, another completely useless thread brought to you by Ginnis. However, this one should be interesting....
So I was wondering, what was your first job?? How much did you make, and any other info you want to share.
I work at Shirley's Cookie Factory 3 days a week for 8 hours a day for $6. It's not bad, I either put the cookies in the plastics, or most often, I pack the plastics in the boxes and load them on a skid. Sometimes I crack eggs or deposit, which is scooping dough from a bowl and putting it into a hopper that puts the dough on a paper to be baked. It gets a little boring, but the people I work with are really freakin' wierd so they keep me entertained. LOL Bullscrickers we call 'em.... ROFLMBO
So.... your turn!

Well that explains the eggshells in my cookies.
Picking up trash and cutting the strip of grass at a small strip mall. Made $4 an hour. Killer money back then. Damn, that was 30 years ago this month.

The year was 1977. I worked in a Shell gas station. It was a full service station that actually worked on cars!! I did small repairs and changed lots of tires. Hourly wage back then? $2.25. I worked 40-45 hours a week and thought I had it made. Gasoline was $0.55 a gal. and we got a break on that for working at the station.

MMMMM... Cookies!
My first paying gig was when I was 15yrs old. Dad was getting out of the dairy business and moving more to hogs. The neighbor was expanding his dairy herd and I started working for him before & after school until I went to college. Now I'm a chemical salesman selling herbicides for a formulator/manufacturer. Make a lot more money now but seem to have a lot less in my checking account than I did back then! At least now I get to sleep in until 5:30 or 6:00 AM.

Back in '77 when MyWifesQuad was working at the service station, I worked at my Dad's flooring/countertop distributor for $2.50 an hour. A princely sum in that day. Drove forklift, cut carpet and vinyl floor, rolled Formica. Whipped my young butt into shape!
But even better was my job during the school year at the local chicken egg ranch. Picked eggs from the long rows and put them into egg flats. About 20,000 eggs a day, walking through chicken crap in unbelievable smell. Made me appreciate the value of an education.

I think I worked @ Dads Dogfood for a short bit....A converbelt would spit out heavy bags of dogfood, some doubled-up and you would stack them on pallets all night in 80-90 heat.... very fun!
My uncle has worked there his whole life ...only 1 job...in management now

Dogfood, eh?? It gets wicked hot in there too. Whatever it is outside, add ten degrees and you have our working conditions. Good way to lose weight though. LOL
