How many still ride without a helmet?
#22
I recently went to Little Sahara Sand Dunes in Utah, and my husband and I were very shocked. About 45,000 people were riding out there for Easter Weekend and we could not believe how many DID NOT have helmets. We wear our helmets all the time. My husband once rolled, when he was very inexperienced and his helmet saved him from serious injury. We will always wear them. I am disappointed that so many people don't wear them at the Sand Dunes, and Sand Mountain. I hope they will get a clue and learn to be cool, and be safe. We've even added LED light kits that we now sell, to keep us safer at night. People can see you from the back and sides, and it is so much safer if you lkike to do night riding like we do.

If Im going for a ride, I will wear a helmet and a whole bunch of protective gear. Everything but a neck pad, or what ever those neck rings are called. But if Im just going to putt around camp or the land by my shop, I dont wear a helmet. "Putting around" is anything under 5-10 mph.

I started wearing one then decided I was too good for it and pretty much quit. My tires and skid plates don't ever see blue.
But send me flowers to my funeral, when applicable.

I would never not ride/race without a helmet on any type of quad as accident can happen at any moment. Especially for the dune riders, 30,000 people wandering around aimlessly in a weekend, how many of the 30,000 people are truly paying attention? I don't care how much the helmet costs either. Really how much is your brain worth? $350.00 for a decent helmet I think my head is worth it. Just remember children emulate adults so put the helmet on! My helmet has saved me from severe injury where I might not be typing here today.

you dont need 350$ to get a decent helmet- for 350USD you probably have a carbon fiber helmet- but you can get a regular one that will keep you safe from wipeouts up to 60mph for around 80$-mine was 100USD and it seems good enough- except that its too big

I will always ride with a helmet. My father was in a very bad accident on my bike - if he hadn't had the skid lid on, he would have died.
I instruct my kids and any others within my vicinity that they will not ride with me unless they have one.
And of course - the govt. will cite you if you dont have it.
Whats this required ATV insurance the Canada guy is talking about? Is this liability only? Or Comp/Collision?
I always assume my medical insurance will be enough... Hell it costs enough!

Keep in mind that your son wants to be like you. He probably thinks it's cool to ride without. When your not looking or he gets older, he probably won't wear one. Had been told this by another father and then found it to be true. My son is allowed to ride in the back yard, whenever he wants, as long as his Mom or I are home. He was riding his dirt bike in the back yard, without a helmet. His Mom had the window open, just listening to him and didn't think she had to tell him to put it on. I came pulling up the driveway, as he darted into the garage. When I confronted him about it, all I got was "you don't wear one". Kinda hard to argue with that.
