I don't care how much the helmet costs either. Really how much is your brain worth?

Hmmm

I will always ride with a helmet. My father was in a very bad accident on my bike - if he hadn't had the skid lid on, he would have died.

I instruct my kids and any others within my vicinity that they will not ride with me unless they have one.

And of course - the govt. will cite you if you dont have it.

Whats this required ATV insurance the Canada guy is talking about? Is this liability only? Or Comp/Collision?
I always assume my medical insurance will be enough... Hell it costs enough!
I have Comp/Collision on both mine for about 130 bucks per quarter. Covers jsut about everything with 100 deductible. It is not required but the bank strongly encouraged it since I owed them for about half the price of the total bill. :-)

Mine ain't worth much. I'm ready to trade for a newer model.

I don't sweat it much. Been riding for about 28 years and I've only had one wreck where I wish I'd been wearing a helmet. And I came out of it without a scratch (just had a tire mark on my forehead). lol!

anyone would be crazy not to wear one. like said above - the helmets now a days look cool. Find one with a cool paint job or graphics and the other without will want one. It doesnt take much to hurt your head. I even put it on riding in the backyard. I wont wear one if I am working in the yard but if I am riding for fun - it's on.

Better safe than sorry.

Were I live if people see you without one - they dont think your cool, they think your an idiot. (no offense to those who dont wear em)

wear em peeps - find a cool one and your friends will follow

while mudding? well you not going fast and you may not fall but it keeps the mud off your head

IMO (And I'm glad you saw the light to wear one before you got hurt too bad) Unless you are working a farm at slow speeds, perhaps pulling trailers and plows around, (Even then it is adviseable) you should always have a helmet on. Forget if it's law or not, if you are operating one of these without a helmet you are a complete jackass. Sorry to be so harsh, but without a helmet a slow speed rollover can end your life....not just the big dramatic crashes.Wear the brain bucket!!!TPR
Listen to him.. He's right. many years ago, I was driving up hwy 70 on a nice warm summer day.. and on this 2 lane highway I saw some motorhome lock up his brakes and pull off the side of the highway. It seems as though some farmer driving his dozer pulling his disc.. got bounced off the single seat when he was supposed to be making a u-turn, ended up getting drug across the highway UNDER the disc. This wouldn't have happened if was wearing his safety belt. He had some serious cuts in his torso, but luckily survived. Imagine seeing someone being drug under a disc being pulled by an unmanned tractor (dozer with no blade) across the highway..! I stopped and held up a shirt to keep the sun off him while others were working stablizing him until the ambulance got there.

WEAR YOUR SAFETY GEAR..! Read my profile page to hear about what I was involved in. I'm glad (always do) I was wearing mine that day.

Now for the rare side. Degenerative disk des.
I always wore a helmet when I would ride my bike, untill my neck would start killing me. Then I would put the bike away and play on the comp for the rest of the year. After PA took away the helmet law I never put another hemet on again! You c between hard work and then riding whenever i had the time I ended up on my back and couldn't pick my head up from the pillow,(wishing I would just die).

The extra weight ( yea it isnt much ) makes too much of a strain on my neck, its the same with hard hats at work if I bump my head its not bad BUT when I bump my head with a hard hat on Its like a 50lbs lead bar was just dropped on my head from the 2nd floor.

So not everyone that doesn't wear a helmet is a fool. I can't believe I'm the only one.
If you don't understand the problem this is it- I have next to no cartilage in my vertebrae (c6 - c4 i think it was) this rubs my nerves untill the inflame then I lose all control over my muscles, my head locks to one side and I cant even hold the weight of my head up......

i must say i am one that dont wear a helmet. cool or not i just dont! keep in mind i would never allow my boy on his without wearing a helmet. most people in my area tend not to wear them. about 60/40.

Keep in mind that your son wants to be like you. He probably thinks it's cool to ride without. When your not looking or he gets older, he probably won't wear one. Had been told this by another father and then found it to be true. My son is allowed to ride in the back yard, whenever he wants, as long as his Mom or I are home. He was riding his dirt bike in the back yard, without a helmet. His Mom had the window open, just listening to him and didn't think she had to tell him to put it on. I came pulling up the driveway, as he darted into the garage. When I confronted him about it, all I got was "you don't wear one". Kinda hard to argue with that.
you are right to a certain point , but my son is smarter than me!! just kidding, but seriously my son follows directions well, and has even got me wearing my seat belt now. who knows he might even(eventually) talk me into getting me to wear a helmant before its all said and done!!!

Exceptions to every rule, anything in moderation.

Does not being physically able to tolerate wearing the helmet alter your riding style at all? ***** to the wall or heavy risk management?

more or less risk managment, It becomes habit understand every move and choice ( If i pick that up Im going to be hurting tomarrow) I dont do much risk anymore. Where someone will fly down a steep hill Ill stop at the top sit back and crawl down. you get the idea
