GoreTex air box cover
#1
A buddy of mine who races XC was looking for an idea to open up his air-box but still keep it water tight. He has an '04 z440 and he's got more power untapped because he does not want to open his air-box to the elements.
Then it hit me.......
We took the stock air-box lid and cut 3-large holes in the top.
Next we got some heavy window screen and cut it big enough to cover the holes.
Then we hot-glued a slab of GoreTex fabric to seal the top.
For added durability we sandwiched the GoreTex between two layers of the window screen.
After all the glue dried we submersed the box for almost 1-hour and the inside was dry.
The air flow is nearly as good as with the lid totally off, in fact the quad ran better with the lid we created then with the lid off.
If I had to do it again I would find a better way to seal the GoreTex to the box so that it could be removed and/or changed if it gets too dirty because it does filter dust and dirt also down to super-fine dust. We do think that it will be able to be cleaned for a long time before the GoreTex breaks down, probably a year or more given how durable the stuff is in boots and clothes.
Of course we won't know the long term durability for a while but I'll pass it on. It is definitely a cheap and easy way to make your box breath and still protect the quad from water and fine dust.

Have you seen picutres of Gore-Tex under the microscope??? The holes are microscopic! They won't flow much air to begin with, and will clog up with dirt so quickly that you will be wasting your time.
I run the EHS Racing lid with Outerwears. Now the Outerwears isn't waterproof, but it is water repellant. I think you can spray it with silicone or something to keep it repellant.
