Rancher, I meant I hope we can survive the next couple years without going into a depression. I, like you, know the damage a bad administration can do. For instance, Clinton allowed China to have designs of multi stage rockets. Can you say ICBM? There were many deals made with the Chinese and now I wonder what they will do with the technology that, before that time, was not to be given to China and like minded countries.<div class="FTQUOTE"><begin quote>I feel extremely blessed to live in America. We grow up with the idea that a little hard work will get you somewhere and it'll take a little hard work to get this country back on it's feet.</end quote></div> I also feel extremely blessed to live in this country. You can get somewhere if you have a product or service people want and you pull up your boots and go for it. But the problem is, in the present mindset, that if you get rich (over $250,000) then you somehow are responsible for people who aren't willing to assert themselves and make their own way. You are penalized for achieving. Here's a little economic lesson. Bruce Henden (me) charges $50 an hour for his carpentry skills here in Massachusetts. After getting paid for a job well done he has to set aside a large amount of money for taxes. He is taxed 28% for federal taxes, 15.2% for Socialist Security (you see I'm the boss and employee. I have to pay 7.6% 2x), and 5.75% Mass. income tax. So, 48.95% of what I used to earn (before my back sidelined me) was already gone. Just makes you want to succeed, doesn't it? It's worse when you make more money. This doesn't include property tax, gas tax (federal and state), sales tax, meals tax, excise tax on vehicles, phone tax, tax on lodging when at a hotel, etc. When will it stop? We keep electing politicians who promise us the moon and we will keep getting gouged every time we make money. This is what I want people to see. We can still succeed but they don't seem to understand in hard times the spending has to come to a halt until the money is there to do what needs to be done. Oh wait, we can just raise taxes on the rich. I can't remember the exact numbers, but the top 4% or earners (those that work for their money) pay something like 60-65% of the taxes. The other 35% is from the middle class. We are not undertaxed in this country. We are overtaxed. I'd like to see the whole tax code thrown in Boston Harbor ala the Boston Tea Party. I don't know how much life experience some people have but I've seen that tax breaks stimulate economies while tax hikes slow any recovery. Watch your wallets. Someone is going to have to pay for all this spending. Vote for the guy/lady who is promising the least. We won't have to pay for his policies as much.

how the system works under Obama

"Who will help me grow my wheat?" asked the little red hen.

"Not I," said the cow.

"Not I," said the duck.

"Not I," said the pig.

"Not I," said the goose.

"Then I will do it by myself," said the little red hen, and so she did.

She planted her crop, and the wheat grew very tall and ripened into golden grain.

"Who will help me reap my wheat?" asked the little red hen.

"Not I," said the duck..

"Out of my classification," said the pig.

"I'd lose my seniority," said the cow.

"I'd lose my unemployment compensation," said the goose.

"Then I will do it by myself," said the little red hen, and so she did.

At last it came time to bake the bread. "Who will help me bake the bread?" asked the little red hen.

"That would be overtime for me," said the cow.

"I'd lose my welfare benefits," said the duck.

"I'm a dropout and never learned how," said the pig.

"If I'm to be the only helper, that's discrimination," said the goose.

"Then I will do it by myself," said the little red hen.

She baked five loaves and held them up for all of her neighbors to see. They wanted some and, in fact, demanded a share. But the little red hen said, "No, I shall eat all five loaves."

"Excess profits!" cried the cow. (Nancy Pelosi)

"Capitalist leech!" screamed the duck. (Barbara Boxer)

"I demand equal rights!" yelled the goose. (Jesse Jackson)

The pig just grunted in disdain. (Ted Kennedy)

And they all painted 'Unfair!' picket signs and marched around and around the little red hen, shouting obscenities.

Then the farmer (Obama) came. He said to the little red hen, "You must not be so greedy."

"But I earned the bread," said the little red hen.

"Exactly," said Barack the farmer. "That is what makes our free enterprise system so wonderful. Anyone in the barnyard can earn as much as he wants. But under our modern government regulations, the productive workers must divide the fruits of their labor with those who are lazy and idle."

And they all lived happily ever after, including the little red hen, who smiled and clucked, "I am grateful, for now I truly understand."

But her neighbors became quite disappointed in her. She never again baked bread because she joined the 'party' and got her bread free. And all the Democrats smiled. 'Fairness' had been established.

Individual initiative had died, but nobody noticed; perhaps no one cared...so long as there was free bread that 'the rich' were paying for.

EPILOGUE

Bill Clinton is getting $12 million for his memoirs.

Hillary got $8 million for hers.

That's $20 million for the memories from two people, who for eight years repeatedly testified, under oath, that they couldn't remember anything.

IS THIS A GREAT BARNYARD OR WHAT?

I just can't see how anyone can believe that Spending more money will have a chance in hell of getting US the US out of debt. Does anyone in office know how to balance a checkbook? The Obama admin. didn't want to give the people a real stimulus, like a rebate on taxes already paid. they were worried that the people would pay bills or SAVE the money and they didn't want that! And if by some small miracle you do get a few more bucks on your paycheck, It won't last for long, just until they can start up a new tax such as a ENERGY or CARBON USE tax! Give with one hand and take away with the other!

It will keep getting worse until America wakes up!

It's up to US to make the changes. It starts with you and me!

And maybe this forum is a small part of that change!

Keep talking about it, maybe we will wake a few people up!</end quote></div>

Exactly buying our way out won't work.if they were gonna use that money they should have given that money to the people.</end quote></div>

It's funny you say that because when this whole stimulus crap started, I was talking to my Wife's cousin and she is from Sweden. She was telling me how back in the last economic crisis the government decided to use a stimulus package to jump start the economy and create more jobs......of course this was on a smaller scale but the same idea...

What they did was give the money directly to the people. And those people that owned small and medium sized business firms got more money to create jobs. But the money went right to the people, not to government chosen firms. The results over there were perfect and the now have one of the strongest economies in the World. Their rich are very rich, and their "poor" are also quite well off....

I understand America is far bigger and more diverse which changes our playing field drastically, but the same economic fundamentals exist. The people made the money, so they should get it back.

Well in that idea, if we took our last 800 BILLION dollar stimulus and split it equally among the 250 MILLION or so tax paying Americans, it is pretty easy to see those numbers favor the people.....now imagine your share in your checking account, I think you'd be pretty pleased...

And I know for a FACT that the people of America would get more for their money than the US government can.....after all this is the same government that was paying how much for toilet seats?

If we did what SS97 suggests it would be $8888 per taxpayer. Now that would get things going much better than the pork barrel earmarks. But, they would want it to be given also to people who don't pay taxes. Kind of like giving a baseball game ticket to someone who didn't purchase a ticket for a game that gets rained out.

Moose, I understand what you are saying about the Boston tea party!
Obama wants to give a tax refund to all of those poor people that have never paid a dime of income tax in their lives! IMO a refund on nothing is NOTHING! If Obama wants to GIVE them something, give them a JOB! (they probably wouldn't want that!)

I've been having this feeling over the last year or so that we,(the taxpayers) are standing on a ledge in the middle of a 1000 ft. cliff. If we step off we fall to our death.
(continuing on as we have been.) But.....
If we try to climb up the cliff, there is an overhang that is called REVOLUTION, that is in our way! I just hope that America comes to it's senses before that happens.
How long can we stand on this ledge before it crumbles?

Lets hope you're right Moose,....2 more years.....

I have to throw in one more response to this subject, I just have to. I would like for anyone to tell me ONE thing that our government does that is successfull. Just one. I can only think of one outside of our military, and that is TAKING OUR MONEY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!Just think about it folks, the government can not effectively manage anything, and yet there are those that believe they have the answer to all of our problems. Health care would be destroyed by government control. Banking would definately be screwed from hell to breakfast. We would all be driving little shitbox cars that had no power. Pickup trucks would more than likely be attained only if you could truly prove that you needed it. ATV's, motorcycles, boats, and anything else that brought you pleasure would more than likely be banned. All of this socialist crap that the liberals want to cram down our throats has been tried, and it has failed EVERY time. It is called socialism and it NEVER works. NEVER.

I agree with Moose. Our freedoms are going fast and if Obama takes enough, one of the rights he takes may just be the right to vote. Then we won't get any chance in 2 years. But it's not Obama that scares me. It's the fact that over 50% of Americans see Socialism/Communism/Tyranny as a good thing. Right now we have the right to vote. But ironically, we have the right to vote to abolish the right to vote, which is where we are headed.
Here's an interesting quote:

Norman Mattoon Thomas, November 20, 1884 - December 19, 1968
was a leading American socialist, pacifist, and six-time presidential candidate for the Socialist Party of America ...

Norman Thomas said this in a 1944 speech:

"The American people will never knowingly adopt socialism. But, under the name of "liberalism, they will adopt every fragment of the socialist program, until one day America will be a socialist nation, without knowing how it happened." He went on to say: "I no longer need to run as a Presidential Candidate for the Socialist Party. The Democratic Party has
adopted our platform."

And:
"The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other peoples' money."
- Margaret Thatcher

SS97's first post was the one I was about to write. He's dead on.

You can say one side or the other takes away rights, but it's which one's people prioritize that determines who they vote for. Nevermind you're still voting to lose your rights, at least the ones least important to you are safer with one candidate over another.

Voting for the lesser of evils is voting for evil. Don't pat yourself on the back when no matter which side you voted for, you voted to lose rights.

We are becoming more socialized because it is the inevitable outcome of a welfare state. Things like labor unions drag on our economy. What was originally supposed to be a hand up in a crisis (like food stamps and welfare programs) have become de facto employment for several generations of family now. We pay to sustain people doing nothing more than being born.

Our leadership role in the world is also a huge drag on our economy. When people point to places like France or Canada for it's socialized medicine, I point to the fact that since 1946 virtually all their national defense has been paid for by the US. Had those places required a stand alone military without hiding behind NATO/US skirt, they would find themselves with much less budget to hand out free pills with. When the UN declares anything it really means the US will foot the bill and send the troops. Costing us that much more.

Here is a blog based on a book written back in the 80's about how Special Interest groups are the death of a gov't. It seems almost prophetic now to read. The blog is a summation, shorter to read. The book itself is slow and the blog summary is adequate to get the point.
